I plan to visit my friend in Aaram in July, but last 2 days I'd like to stay at the hotel in Alesund, as the choice of the hotels is limited there in, I decided to book Best Western Baronen hotell (price is relatively reasonable), website declares that the distance from hotel to the city centre is 15 min., but, it looks like in fact it's about12 km. They say that shuttle bus stop is about 1 km, but as I understand, itinerary is fixed to arrival/departure. Could anybody, who knows the place, to advise me how can I get to the city centre, and if not by bus than how much is the taxi in Aalesund?? Thank you in advance, regards, Lena
The suburb where Baronen Hotel is located, is called Spjelkavik. It's about 12 km from the city centre, 15 min by car. The shuttle-bus from the airport stops 1 km from the hotel. There is however local buses running between the center and the suburbs. I'm sure the staff at the hotel can give you further information.

Thank you, very much, Berit:-) Now I'm confident, it's right place for me)) As I can see of your HP, you live in this region, then could you, please, advice me concerning birdwatching spots nearby, which are acceptable by car, not only by boat: the son of my friend has seasickness and she prefers to go around by car. I tried to make search and under advice from birdwatching forum I have sent the email to the Birdingnorway company more than month ago, but they didn't answer:-/. Kind regards, Lena
The ultimate birdwatching spot is the island Runde. The island is accessible by car.( Connected to the mainland with several bridges). If you don't want to go around the island on an organized trip by boat, you do have to walk across the island to get to he nesting-places. It's an easy walk, I've done it with kids myself.

Kristiansund is another important town in the region Møre og Romsdal . 16928 inh. today . Once and still a important fisheryport , but today also supplybase for the oilplattforms on Haltenbanken.The town is situated on three island , connected together with bridges. Take the ferry to Averøy if you want to drive the Atlantic ocean road .
Take some time to discover the Art Nouveau Town Ålesund. Originally most buildings were substantially made of wood. Bc of a fire on the 23rd of January 1904 big parts of the town were destroyed, but Ålesund was rebuilt. By the way, help therefore was given for instance by Germany's emperor William II.
Getting there: Ålesund lies at the end of the E136, about 120 km west of Åndalsnes.

The night of January 23rd 1904 was the night of the big fire... which in 16 hours burned down 850 houses and left 10.000 people homeless. In the centre there were only 230 homes left. The whole town needed to be rebuilt and by 1907 this deed was accomplished - in Art Nouveau style.
Art Nouveau, generally speaking, means that the new homes were decorated with towers, turrets and imaginative and colourful ornaments, often from the natural world (leaves, fruits and so on).
