rangers v Molde

by ndahl

My brother in law is a football fanatic. he wishes to travel to Molde for a football match, leaving scotland and returning the same day.
Is this possible and can it be done cheaply?
The cheapest fares I could find are £256 return between edinburgh and bergen and £207 from bergen to Molde and that would be over two days.
Any advice anyone?

it use to be flight between glascow/aberdeen to stord (south of bergen)i'm not sure there still is
also ryan air flys to haugesund(from standstead) and there are flights to molde from there

Kvernes Stave-church on the way to Kristiansund

by globetrott

This wonderful Stavchurch is in quite a distance to Molde, BUT also along the logical way to Kristiansund, this is why I list it here.
Kvernes Stave-church is normally locked except for a very short summerseason and that was over already when I passed by there by my car at the end of august. I got back there with the excursion by Hurtigruten and the guides were waiting there for us and opened the church just for us.
Photography is allowed inside the church, BUT only without flash and tripod.
So, in case that you come there outside of the short summerseason, get there in the late afternoon, ca. 6-7pm is when the Hurtigrutengroup will be coming.
Drivingtime from Molde to Kvernes is about 2-3 hours one way and you will pass by Atlanterhavsveien.
Kvernes Stavkirke is open for visitors :
June 20th till August 20th
daily from 10.00am till 05.00pm
entrancefee is 40 NOK

Town og Jazz and Roses

by SailorRoar

"Go during the Jazz festival"

I lived in Molde for 3 years while studying. Molde is known for it's great Jazz Festival in July, and for it's tousands of roses during the summer. Even though Molde always has been a beautifull city, the last years reneval of the harbour front has given the city a modern facade from the seaside. The Rica Hotell Seilet, the new soccer stadium, the teathre and the station is a few of the new building that makes this modern facsade. But the most impressive sight in Molde is the panorama view of the mountains in the south. So bring your camera, and go during the Jazz festival, you wont regrett it. Besides it is always summy furing the festival (at least as far as I can remenber).

Norwegian Coastal Voyage Part 2

"Geiranger to Molde bus tour"

This is Part 2 of the Norwegian Coastal Voyage. Part one is Geiranger. In this section, we left the Finmarken at Geiranger to take a bus tour up to Molde. This was an incredible tour! There are no tips, just the 5 travelogs in this section. The highlight of this bus trip was the Troll Road.

"Geirange Fjord"

At 1:30 we started a 7 hour tour which would take us from Geiranger to Molde where we would meet back up with the ship. We had to be ferried into land since the harbor was too shallow for large ships to get to shore. There were 6 buses to meet us (2 English speaking ones). We rode up and up and up the high mountains surrounding the fjord from which we departed. Absolutely amazing views. I was clicking away when the bus did stop to let us out for a Kodak moment.

"Geirange Fjord"

At the top of the switchbacks coming up from Geiranger Fjord was this lovely waterfall going down to the Fjord.

Geiranger to Molde Bus Tour Part 5

by geekgrrl

"At the bottom of the Troll Road"

"Troll Crossing sign"

I also got a photo of the only "Troll Crossing" sign in Norway. A cloudburst opened up violently, and we all hurried back on the bus to the next coffee break stop.

"Break Stop"

It was a combination souvenir shop and huge tour bus coffee break stop. We were all herded into the dining area with our bus numbers on the tables. We had coffee or tea and ham or cheese open-face sandwiches. Then there was time for people to wander through the shop. It was so packed, that we got out of there quickly. When we got back on the bus, the tour guide told us that one of the buses got caught on the Troll Road during the storm. Rocks were falling on the top of the bus, and it scared the daylights out of those passengers.

"Dinner stop at the outskirts of Molde"

We stopped again in Molde for dinner. They were serving lamb, so I had pre-ordered some fish. We all had a salmon and lettuce salad. I got my plate with two pieces of breaded and fried fish with a corn/tomato salsa dish on the side. The others were served family style – a huge platter of lamb, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, and gravy.

"Party Ship at Molde"

We got back to the boat at 9:30 and left at 10. While we were docked in Molde (where they were having a jazz festival) we watched a party sailing ship try to dock. They were having great trouble throwing the rope to the dock. Ariel Sharon had just been there the day before. Glad we missed him and the crowds and security.
