Car park on the rocks: A shower - yes, a stay - no

It's not really a place to stay, but somewhere to leave your car or even a caravan while you go on the sightseeing tour of the island. It's on your right, just past the tunnel described in my danger tips. The interesting thing about this place is not only that it offers great views of the sea and the islands. The modest building at the end of the car park is a proper bathroom, with hot and cold running water, a toilet and a coin-operated shower. So, even if you are not stopping on the island for long, you can use these facilities. No staying overnight in the car park though, or so the notice says.

Goksoyr Camping: Campsite on the island of Runde

Most people come there in June/July to watch the thousands of birds nesting on the cliffs.
But the place is charming and worth seeing out of season, too, being open from April till the end of September. The cabins are very well equipped, and there are all the facilities for campers and tourists in tents. We stayed in the cheapest, but the most beautifully situated cabin - the only one at only 180 NOK. A real bargain for Norway, and right on the seashore, too! Knut, the campsite owner, whose surname I have not learnt, was even kind enough to offer us coffee while we waited for the cabin to be cleaned. He was also very helpful with planning our itinerary. The campsite is a good starting point for walks on the cliffs, and there is a pier right at the foot of it for the boats going on birdwatching trips.

Unique Quality: A lovely place, with the sea on one side and the cliffs on the other. The end of the world in a sense, as the road ends there blocked by the cliff where the birds nest. The only sounds you can hear from your cabin are those of the waves breaking on the rocks, the cries of the seagulls and the baaing of the sheep grazing on the steep hillside.
