Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current. Every 6 hours it culminates, when 400 mill m3 of salt water force its way through the 150 m wide strait, with a speed up to to 20 knots.When the strom is strongest (time-tables are available) it's boiling down there! Many a small boat have been trapped in those whirls and disappeared during the years.Saltstraumen is a popular attraction and an eldorado for fishing. Every year the World Championship for seithe (coley) fishing takes place there.The record so far caught with rod is 22,7 kilos.
