We only stayed there one night but I wish we had stayed longer. The hostel has all the facilities, which you share with not too many people. The rooms are spacious and well but simply furnished and the views are stunning. Our room overlooked the sea, and we could sunbathe on the cliff that came up straight to our terrace. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. His cat knows that too, following him around all the time. It's a great place to stay in.
The views are just lovely. If you like fishing, that's the ideal place to be in and Roar will let you use the boat. The atmosphere is very friendly, the host doesn't leave anyone alone. The people get together, prepare fish together and sit and talk on the wooden pier for hours on end. If you are travelling by car or cycling, it would be nice(and not too expensive) to get to the Lofoten by ferry from Skutvik to Svolvaer and see the fairyland island of Skrova on the way.Website: none and no e-mail either

window on the world by yooperprof When it's light 24 hours of the day, there's not much need for external stimulation. And this is the view outside your window, you don't really need much decoration inside the room either. traditional accomodation by yooperprof Staying in a traditional Lofoten fishing cabin - a rorbu - is a popular option for many who come to these islands. The word is derived from the root "ror" - meaning "row" (as in a boat) - and "bu" - meaning to live or stay. These were the accomodations where fishermen stayed while taking part in the annual cod harvest. Traditionally, the cabins were owned and rented out by the local squires, who often owned the fishing vessels as well as the processing facilities. Up until the early 20th century, the local Lofoten economy was practically feudal in the way in which nearly all the "means of production" AND the land and housing stock were in the hands of a few wealthy families. (For more about the history and heritage of these islands, visit the museums in Å.=

stamsund hostel by call_me_rhia A hostel to die for. About 20 minutes walk from where the Hurtigruten arrives, but right near a bus stop. It's in a yellow authentic Rorbu and managed by a really nice local fisherman who knows all about the islands, its hiking trails and fishing. He also lends you for free a fishing boat if you want to row out and fish.
The rorbu is really authentic, and still smells of fish slightly - ofter all the owner is still a winter-time fisherman. Large spacious rooms, and cooking facilities... on the open fire! Never had food tasted so good. Make reservations in advance: the hostel is very popular. a i Lofoten by call_me_rhia This hostel is really nice and quaint, and it is scattered in several buildings which belong to the museum. Most are in rorbus and are lovely, but I storngly recommend to refuse to stay in the room above the old bakery since it's extremely noisy and hot, and very early in the morning - when the baker starts preparing the bread - you'll be woken up by voices and the excessive heat of the oven
the buildings belong to the historical park - and they are really fairytale like Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Å Rorbuer, Å i LofotenPhone: 76091121Directions: the entire village belongs to the historical park. so u can't miss it

the hostel by call_me_rhia This hostel, located on the grounds of the Lofoten Folkehogskole, is hard to decribe. A ugly concrete building which is normally used as a school/sports center - and about 20 minutes from the centre of Kabelvag. It's just before the wooden chuch and surrounded by trees - but it's still in an ugly position. .
one of the few - or maybe the only - budget place. On top of this accommodation in Kabelvag is scarce Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Lofoten FolkehogskoleDirections: on the road to svolvaer, turn right before the wooden church

This is a nice place, ideally situated at the end of the island, which gives you more of a feeling of being at a remote place. The cabins are a suitably rustic bright red on the outside and natural wood on the inside. The rooms are clean and modern, the whole place having a well maintained feel to it. We can't compare them to other rorbu in Lofoten so all we can do is say we enjoyed staying there. The staff (Husband and wife) were nice if a bit aloof but it was the offseason so I guess it was their vacation. We were the only guests there. They were helpful in arranging activities like hiking and boating. The two things that stand out the most about this rorbu is that they have a log fired hot tob overlooking the quay. Unfortunately they charge to start her up and we weren't willing to spend the money. The other is that they have a cabin on it's own little island. To stay there with a group of friends would be something else. Theme: OtherPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterDirections: End of the island. If you're walking, there are more convenient places to stay in Henningsvaer because it's a decent hike from the center of the island to this place.

Rica Hotel Svolvaer is very nice and it is located on the small island of Lamholmen in the town of Svolvaer. The hotel has got some rooms built over stilt houses and all of them has got TV, phone and minibar. In the restaurant you can have a very good buffet breakfast and to have a great view over the harbour of the town.
