TOURIST HUTS
Staffed huts - both privat and associated with the DNT - allow wilderness esploration throughoutthe Park. DNT huts fully staffed include Fannarakhytta, Gjendebu, Gjendesheim, Glitterheim, Nordstedalsseter and Skogadalsboen. Self-service and unstaffed huts include Olavsbu, Slettningsbu, Skagastolbu and Stolsmaradalen - all much simpler affairs than the staffed huts. If you will use these huts, you may want to become a member of the DNT to take advangtage of cheaper fares. Private huts include popular stops like Juvasshytta, Leirvassbu, Memurubu, Spiterstulen, Torfinnsbu and Vetti. DNT guided-mountain hikes take advantage of the huts en route and so should you, in order to make the load on your back lighter. Sleeping is in dorm fashion and meals are served communally.
http://www.spiterstulen.no/english The hut at Spiterstulen is used by people who are out to climb Galdhopiggen and/or Glittertindan.
http://www.fjell-touren.de/DNTglitterheim.htm Glitterheim hut is on the NE part of the park and provides quick access to the ice and clouds atop Glittertindan.
http://www.leirvassbu.no The hut at Leirvassbu is located next to a lake and provides access to the middle heart of the Jotunheimen.
http://www.krossbu.no/ The huts at Krossbu and further along at Sognefjellshytta, provide access to the Fanaraken glacier and mountains to the south and the Smorstabbreen - a glacier and an icy way to Leivassbu.
http://www.gjendesheim.no This large hut is found at the east end of Lake Gjende and is the start of the famous walk over the Besseggen.
http://www.memurubu.no/ This hut - rebuilt recently - is found midway along Lake Gjende. You can climb to the north, Surtningssui, or many other adventures await as well.
Each hut has its own unique charateristics. If you are staying in DNT huts, you might want to consider membership in the DNT to reduce costs. During the high summer season, it is a good idea to reserve rooms ahead. Showers are provided at the huts - you get a token which is good for a limited amount of time. Food is served at the huts and is very hearty. You will meet Norwegians on their own turf, as well as trekkers from all over Europe.
Note that you can usually camp near the huts, though many have taken advantage of the allmannsrettning - the ability to camp whereever you want - and now your are prohibited from camping too close to the huts.

Urdadalen: Everywhere. Almost
You can place your tent almost everywhere.
A lot of solid rock around so find a good spot.
One day we walked over the "Urdadalen" pass. It was getting dark and we had 5 hours walking in each direction before we would reach the grasslands. So we had to put our tents out in the rocks.
Bad planning :)
Fresh air!
