Oslo Card
by chaarvee
I am unable to understand. Can I re-enter any of the museums I have already visited with the Oslo Card. Can I visit the same museum more than once. With the card?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Oslo Card

I have never used the card, but as far as I understand from what I've read on the visitoslo site, you can re-enter the museums, as the entrance is free. I would guess you have to pay a second time for the discounted attractions if you go back on another day.
Why don't you email the tourist information and ask? http://www.visitoslo.com/en/contact-us.49134.en.html
Travel Tips for Oslo
National Day - May 17th
by redsaga
If you happen to be in Oslo around May 17th you should be prepared for a big hoolabaloo. The Norwegians are VERY proud of their country and celebrate this day with everything they have. You'll see flags flying, people singing and royals waving, students parade, stressed out police men and colourful traditional costumes. And the best place to experience all this is of course on the main street Karl Johan, all the way from Ostbanehallen (the trainstation) to the Royal Palace. Oslo is a pretty big city but with a small town feeling and I haven't been to any other city that sparkles so brightly in the summer as Oslo. Pretty much everything is within walking distance, the parks are nice, the people friendly and the nightlife is excellent. You can go to museums, shop fancy clothes or stroll on one of the cosy islands.
But the thing I miss the most about Oslo is probably the park life in summertime: To sit with your friends on a blanket in Vigelandsparken, drink some wine, listen to music and just talk.
Wonderful seafood served down by the harbour
by fluffybunny
Oslo centre appeared quite small but there are many delights to behold. If you go to eat then be sure to sample the seafood cuisine down by the harbour. There are plenty of restaurants but I had salmon served on a boat in the harbour and it was very delicious. Oslo appeared to be a tranquil place. What amazed me about the centre was that 90% of people were living in apartments and there were very few houses.
It's a wonderful place to take a stroll in and take in the wonderful scenery
Language
by Marpessa
Okay, while in Norway I didn't really test my language skills very far beyond "snakker du engelsk?" (Do you speak english?) and "takk" (thanks).
But I think it is always a good idea to learn a few words of the local language, as a way of being polite and because I think it is fun to learn new things.
So here are a few more Norwegian words to help you out:
Hello: Goddag
Goodbye: Ha det
Yes/No: Ja/Nei
Sorry: Unnskyld
Open: åpen
Closed: stengt
Entrance: inngang
Exit: utgang
Toilets: toaletter
Men: herrer
Women: damer
Bus stop: bussholdeplass
Train station: jernbanestasjon
La Ville - The City
by Porteplume
.
English: Translation will follow soon...
CLOSINGTIMES
by Maria_75
Welcome to the country with many strange rules... ;) Many of the closingtimes can be a bit confusing, so I will try to give some general tips.
- Supermarkets:
They normally have to close at 20, but the last years many have been able to have open untill 23. On saturdays many close at 18 (sometimes 21), and sundays they are closed.
BUT (now comes the funny part) if the store is less than 100m2 they can have open untill 22 every day, including sundays... The chain called Bunnpris have mostly stores like this, and some others too.
- Buying alcohol:
Stores can not sell alcohol after 20 on a normal weekday, and after 18 on saturdays, even if the store is open longer. On holidays and electionday (!) they can't sell it at all. Some days that come before a holiday, they can only sell alcohol early in the day, (until 13-15). Normally they put up signs telling you when you can buy alcohol. Especially in Easter and Christmas you have to check out the times.
- Going out:
Most places downtown close at 3.00 - 3.30 in the night, a few have open untill 6 in the morning. But you can't buy alcohol after 3, no matter how long they are open. Almost all of the places that are not downtown close at 00.30 or earlier, which means that most people head downtown at the same time and it can be difficult getting a taxi. The same happens around 3 o'clock when everyone are going home again. So it might be better going out a bit earlier and heading home before 3 if you don't want to spend a lot of time in the taxi queue.
