Cheap place to stay

by sopra_ti

Hi.

I will arrive in Oslo on the 13th of May and leaving on the 17th.
Since I will be traveling alone, I need a cheap place to stay for 4 nights.
I prefer a single room instead of a share room in a Hostel.
What places do you recommend?
Thanks!
Best Regards,
Pedro.

You've left it a bit late, especially with the 17th being the Norwegian national day, so super cheap is probably not an option. Try these for starters:

Cochs Pensjonat: http://www.cochspensjonat.no/englishindex.html
Anker hotell: http://www.anker-hotel.no/en/
Perminalen hotell: http://www.perminalen.com/

Haraldsheim Vandrerhjem (which admittedly is a hostel) also has a few single rooms; http://www.haraldsheim.no/

make sure to have GOOD time at the 17th if ur planning to leave that day,, as most of oslos streets are closed for traffic,, so public transport takes longer time than usual

Thanks for the help.
I confess that I never expect that sleeping in Oslo would be so expensive.
I'll be aware regarding the 17th.
Best regards,
Pedro.

Travel Tips for Oslo

Take a tour...

Most of the tours I took whether it was through the Akershus Fortress or the Norwegian Folk Museum, I was given more information that I could have gained just on my own. Most are done by college students and they are very informative. Usually they are free also.

by MagnusM

In summer I'd recommend to take a ferry to one of the islands in the fjord of Oslo. Buy some fresh shrimps and some white wine before setting off - and make a litte picnic out of it.

When it's winter I would suggest renting some skates at 'Spikersuppa' in downtown Oslo, and skate around on the ice. Round it off with a kakao or cofee in one of the cafés down by Saga filmtheatre.

Holmenkollen

by call_me_rhia

Holmenkollen is a hilly area just outside Oslo full of quaint and colourful wooden houses... traditionally looking at first sight but if you watch a bit more carefully, you'll soon discover that it's a very wealthy area.

It's located near the Marka, the woodlands, and it's a great destination for outdoor activites and hiking - as well as for admiring the world's longest ski jump. From up there yoiu can have amazing views of the Oslo fjord. I think I saw in this area one of the most beautiful buildings in Oslo - a large wooden red building with a turret (see photo). It turned out that it's a hotel, the Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica - I so wish I would have stayed there.

The Holmenkollen area is located about 30 minutes from downtown Oslo. You can easilt get there by metro: take number 1 direction Frognerseteren and get off at either Holmenkollen or Besserud.

Vigeland Park

his park is so famous, no need to give more explaination

than that of the statue of the child reminding me of my little sister.

She looked just like that when she used to be angry :-)

In front of the palace

by Igraine

I think this is general Bernadotte who became the first king of Sweden en Norway.

The inscription on the side tells something like taking care of the people. I can´t remember tthe exact words.
