Central, Comfortable, Helpful
by tombantle
Stayed two nights. Staff very helpful in accomodating health requirement and providing Oslo Card. Originally built as part of Olympic Village for 1952 Winter Olympics, now a Deluxe hotel. Right at T-Bane stop. Good shopping right next door for Norwegian woolens
Unique Quality: Authentic koldtbord (smorgasbord) served nightly in central atrium -- who knew there were so many ways to serve herring -- all tasty. Copious breakfast buffet. Rooms at the front have view over the Jernbantorget and the Oslo fjord; room in back more ordinary city view.
Directions: At next corner to the right as leaving the front door of the main train station. Entrance to Jernbanetorget T-Bane stop immediately across the street.

Great Hotel for a Weekend Getaway
by VranzAVanMaaren
Stayed at the Christiania during this 2005-2006 New Year's Weekend. We stayed three nights @ 99.00 euros per room p/n (thru Hotels.com)
The hotels is located immediately across the road from the Central Railway Station in downtown Oslo. You'll find everything pretty much within walking distance. In case you don't like walks: there's a subway station entrance next to the hotel.
Our room was comfortable, spacious and clean. We may have gotten a (junior) suite for the price of a standard room. We don't know for sure.
Overal decoration: very modern, very Scandinavian.
Unique Quality: The complimentary breakfast is not to be missed! Delicious.
We took the subway (1) to the skiing area(s). The ride took some 25 minutes. Great for cross country skiing. "Less" for downhill skiing.
Directions: If you leave the Central Railway Station, you can't miss the hotel across the street.

Built for the Olympics
by sourbugger
Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania, Oslo
This four star hotel is perhaps somewhat arge impersonal, but it is bright, well-maintained and well run.
It was built to house the officials in the 1952 winter olympics, the only time that a Capital city has hosted them.
As such it has the best location in town - right in the centre, opposite the central station.
The rooms are comparatively large, and although decorated in quite minimalist browns still looks a little dated from whenever the last re-fit was.
The hotel is basically triangular with a large , if covered, courtyard where meals are taken. If is fine for buffets and the superb buffet breakfast, but hardly appropriate for any kind of romantic intimacy.
The only other real minus point I could find was the 'swimming pool' - which you could hardly drown a rat in.

Royal Christiania Hotel
by deptlads
Modern 4-star hotel in the city centre, very close to the main railway station.
Their standard weekend rate of NOK990/night is reasonably competetive, but with the Nordic Hotel Pass (€10) the 3-nights for the price of 2 offer makes it pretty good value in the 3 and 4-star category.
The rooms are comfortable, if a bit functional. Some of them have internal windows looking onto the atrium with its huge Norwegian flag.
