Oslo Vandrerhjem
Oslo Hostel Haraldsheim is close to a place I have been living for many years. It's a well establish hostel that offers budget accommodation. It offers single rooms to 4 bedded rooms. Breakfast buffet is included. The hostel is on a green hill overlooking Oslo city and the fjord.
The public transportation to downtown Oslo is good. The area is also a starting point for hikes in the neighbouring woodlands called "Marka".
Prices from NOK 245,- in dorms. Members of Hostelling International are entitled to 10% discount on the overnight price at arrival.
Unique Quality: The price level in Norway is high and accommodation can be costly if you don't have friends or know how to live cheaper. Staying at a hostel, or "vandrehjem", as it is called in Norway is cheaper than staying at a hotel. Although you don't have the same luxury.

Best hostel in oslo
Haraldsheim is located bit far from the city center, i think that adds to the character of this hostel. It is a very calm place, but only when there are no school kids running around. Note that people of all ages stay in this hostel: you can see families and also some schoolkids programs. So it is not really a party type place. If you are looking for a relaxing place, this is it. It is away from the hustle of the city, but only a tram raid away.
It is clean, and has a very good breakfast (which is very convenient esp in Norway). I say best hostel, because I happened to see (from outside) some of the other budget hotels I had considered. At least from the outside, they were not appealing. Being away from the main streets makes it a safe place. I would definitely stay there again (if I can afford Norway again !!)

Hostel Happiness
Great place to stay; super clean, friendly staff (and guests!), not too far out from the center of the city. Cheap compared to hotels, and an amazing breakfast.
Unique Quality: There is a particular view of Oslo from just outside the hotel. There is also a picnic bench outside, lots of green grass and football (soccer) field.

Youth hostel with great view!
I really do not remember if I have a picture of Oslo from this place, but for sure it was amazing.
Simple hostel, but comfortable and offering a great breakfest...
Good option!
Unique Quality: Hostels are always nice because of the different people you meet there...

Probably the cleanest hostel I have ever slept in. Helpful staff who speak great English

A nice hostel...
We stayed at the Haraldsheim Hostel which was really great!
We paid 160 KR each per night for dorm rooms (same sex only).
