Great place to stay in Central Oslo

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 18, 2014

We've stayed at the Best Western Hotel Bondeheimen in Oslo and I'm please to say that this is an excellent choice if you want to stay in central Oslo at affordable prices. Here's my review on the following aspects:

STAFF: The staff is uber-friendly and always available to help you with a smile. Everybody (and I really mean everybody) says "hej" and if you have any questions or needs, don't hesitate to ask for help. You will be very well served.

CLEANLINESS: Nothing to say about it. Everything was extremely clean and no complaints at all. We've stayed in the 5th and 6th floors (on both times we've stayed here in this trip) and the room, the linen and bathroom were in perfect "cleanliness shape"!

ROOM/BATHROOM: We had two room in our stay. The first one was on the sixth floor and it was an interior room. Very quiet, average size and with two beds (-) that together felt like one (+: they didn't move, and the gap was ultra thin). It has wired Internet access (-), minibar (+), LCD TV (+) and safe (+). Bathroom was also average size with shower. The decoration is catchy and modern style.

LOCATION: Central Oslo, at a 5-7 minutes walk to the Royal Palace. It's near everything (10 minutes walk to Oslo Central Station), 2 minutes to the Hard Rock Cafe. It's in a great location and away from noise (which, by the way, is not much in Oslo).

BREAKFAST: Meals are in Cafe Kafistova (next to the Reception) and it has a huge variety of bread, fruits, coffee, milk, juices, ... it's impossible to leave without tasting everything. Kafistova is also where you can have lunch or dinner, and as an hotel guest, you have 20% discount. In Oslo, it's worth it!

RECEPTION: It's open 24/7 and like everyone else of the staff, they are uber-friendly and helpful. You have a machine at your disposal where you can make tea, coffee, cappuccino, caffe-latte, etc. absolutely free. Also you have two PC (free) with a printer available to access the Internet if you forgot your laptop.

OVERALL: It's a great place to stay! (2012-01)

Right in the center of t all

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Bondeheimen in March 2009, a very reasonably priced hotel in the center of Oslo.
We were upgraded to a larger room unexpectedly but also thankfully as we were not feeling well and spent quite some time in our hotel room.
The breakfast was delicious and very filling. The cafe on site offered typical Norwegian meals throughout the day for a very reasonable price!
The location is right down town, close to everything, whether you wish to walk or take the subway.. excellent location!

Unique Quality: The cafe right on site offered typical Norwegian food for a very reasonable price!

Directions: Right off of the well know Karl Johans Gate, about 5 minute walk to the Oslo Central train station.

Very nice hotel, rooms are really big with a lot of space to use.

Breakfast if bouffet, a big taste of everything is on the table waiting for you.
Not really in the center of the city but if you use the metro you will have no problems.

Very Central Location

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

Very mixed thoughts on this hotel. Superb location and helpful staff but standard room, for the price, is not really up to scratch.
Booked a double room to find on arrival they had none available and was given a twin, complained and was given a room upgrade, still only a twin but more bearable. The room was very plesant, but is of a quality of what you would expect for a standard room, still the phone did not work for the whole weekend. So dont really book anything less than the upgraded room.
Even on the 5th floor the noise from the street outside on a saturday night is still quite apparent, earplugs definatley recommended.
Only other things to note are that the breakfast is really good, great value.

Central location, Comfortable Hotel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

I Booked this for our gang of 4 after reading VTers tips.

Reasonable price and central location clinched it!
10 minutes from bus terminal, less than 5 by taxi.

Friendly, patient and helpful reception staff.

We had booked 1 smoking and 1 non smoking room, our allocated rooms were both non smoking. Within a few minutes, another room was found.

Apparently, the hotel is undergoing renovation, and will eventually be all non smoking.

Rm 421 Non Smoking, twin beds with settee (classed as Family Room), wardrobe space, dressing table,TV, mini bar. Bathroom with shower,wc and basin plus hairdryer.

2 elevators (lifts).
Reception area with chairs, newspapers and books. Locked left luggage store.
Check out 12 noon, possible late check out upto 1500.
Taxi Rank opposite .

Unique Quality: Restaurant/Cafe.

Booked as Bed And Breakfast. Breakfast served 07.30 - 10.00 weekends.
Self service.

Good selection of hot and cold, Norwegian and International dishes.
Mostly familiar, some surprises, and a couple of 'mystery' items!

One of the mystery items was the slab of brown 'stuff' at the end of the cold buffet table , which I later found out was the national delicacy of brown cheese- to me it tasted like caramac flavoured cheese- neither pleasant or unpleasant! I did try some more the next day.

Directions: Less than 5 minutes from Karl Johans gate. At the back of The Grand Hotel, and opposite Hotel Bristol.

If travelling by taxi- be sure to emphasise the hotels name and address, there is more than one Best Western hotel in Oslo

Have just returned from oslo, 18-02-05 after staying at the above hotel. This hotel is in a great location and offers friendly clean acommodation. The room was adequate in size and had very comfortable beds. The breakfast was excellent with lots to choose from. the taxi rank and underground were within a few minutes walk and there were plenty of restaurants and bars close at hand. If all best western hotels are as good as this i will certainly stay in them again.

Directions: excellent location, everything close at hand

Bondeheimen Hotell

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)

Pleasant 3-star hotel in an attractive Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) building in the city centre, very close to the Esplanade. It was originally established as a hotel for agricultural workers.

Our room was comfortable, nicely furnished, and very large, although with a rather dismal view into the hotel yard. Our friends' room was quite a bit smaller and facing onto the street, which was quite noisy. The excellent breakfast is taken in the rather nice hotel cafe Kaffistova, which opens to the general public as a lunch restaurant after breakfast finishes.

This was a very nice, unpretentious hotel. Our only complaint is that it took them ages to get our rooms ready. We didn't expect to get our rooms when we first checked-in at around 10am (after having come off the boat from Copenhagen), but even after going away to visit the Vigeland sculpture park for several hours, we still didn't get our rooms until gone 4pm

Unique Quality: Good location.

Directions: Just off Karl Johans Gate, close to the Grand Hotel.
