Near the Torpexpress bus station

We have chosen that hotel, because they offered a rather good price and they gave us the Oslo pass for free. When we looked on the map, we had the impression that it is near the central station. But, some days later, I found an other map - shock: It was a bit outside.
But there is a train station, a bus stop and even a tram stop nearby. And the most important was, that the bus stop from the airport bus was just a 5 minutes walk.

Unique Quality: The hotel offered a great breakfast. Fresh fruits, different bread, musli, .....
We never went to the bar, because it was closed the weekend.
The first evening we noticed a computer in the hotel hall, it was for free. But of course, the weekend there are lots of tourists who wanted to use it.
Another thing which was for free were bikes. So we got twice their bikes to make a little tour in that quarter and to visit the museum island, which is pretty close. The bikes were not the best, but it was fun biking to Bygdoe island.

Oslo in the rain

by sjyoung

we are going to be in Oslo this coming weekend and it looks like rain - can we do the boat ride and a train tour in this weather or just stick to the museums?
Any other suggestions? We are planning on taking the train from the airport to the National Theater stop and walk to the Scandic Oslo Kna hotel on Parkveien - anyone know how far that is?

Stephen,

Don't worry too much about the rain forecast. My wife and I (late 50's) just got back from Oslo yesterday. The weather is very different than the US Northeast. It looks threatening at times, and you may get 5 minute showers several times during the day. During our 5 day stay, we walked around a lot and took a boat ride. Weather was not a factor.

We stayed at the Coch's Pension on Parkveien and walked with our (large) luggage along the Slottsparken. Not sure where your hotel on Parkveien is. When you reach the National Theater stop, make sure you walk along the platform toward Parkveien (the other far end). You'll get out right at the corner of Parkveien (across the street from the American Embassy!).
Enjoy stay! Write me if you want more info - jims99@ureach.com
