Clean good value for money hotel in Oslo, Norway
clean and good value for money. Ten minutes walk to Oslo centre. Good choice for breakfast. Bathroom looks a little 'tired' but great shower! 150 kroner taxi ride from the central bus station.

Now known as the Thon Hotel Munch, this is a nice budget hotel with rooms larger than in some major European cities. Its a decent location about 4 blocks north of Karl Johanes gate
This is a central hotel very close to Karl Jhoans but in a quiet area.
It´s a standard hotel , the rooms are medium size and clean with big windows that open, in spite of the bathroom being small it has everything you need for a good shower and it has heated floor.
The bed it´s really comfortable and soft !!
It has an excelent and plentiful breakfast. The staff is polite.

Hi- Can anyone give us up-to-date help identifying grocery stores easily accessed by Thon Hotel Munch (or via transit from there)? Also cheap (as possible, anyway) veggie food, esp. Indian or Italian? Or any other tips about keeping food costs down. We will also be in Bergen (thon Hotel Brygge) so any of the same info for Bergen most appreciated.
Also, do you know if it's true that some hotels will let you pack some breakfast to take away (paying, of course, not stealing)...is this a reasonably good way to get some food, or is one better off shopping?
takk!
Bergen: for cheap Italian food, Pastasentralen (as mentioned before:o) would be the obvious option. The pizzas at Pastasentralen are really nice, the pasta is...sometimes great, sometimes not so much so! It really varies a lot! But the food is cheap, and *usually* quite ok. And they've got many vegetarian options! (Tip on my Bergen page, and also on my veggie blog; norwayveggie.blogspot.com - link to my blog on my VT homepage as well)
There are two indian restaurants in Marken (street between the railway station and the police station), both are called Taste of Indian (yep, Indian not India) and both have many vegetarian options on the menu. I haven't eaten there myself, not a huge fan of Indian food, but the food there is supposed to be pretty good.
As for Oslo, haven't been there in ages - but I'm actually going to Oslo next week so might have a few tips for you about veggie food then. ;o)
Supermarkets; I'd just ask at the hotel, they'll know!
Thon Hotel Brygge - there are two Thon Brygge in Bergen; one is called Bergen Brygge and the other Sandviken Brygge. The Sandviken Brygge one isn't in the city centre, the Bergen Brygge one is.
Just walked past both Thon Brygge hotels today;o) - the Bergen Brygge one (in the city centre) is situated close to at least three supermarkets; one Rema (cheap but generally not great) and one Rimi - both near Mariakirken (St. Mary's church), and one Kiwi just up the road from Mariakirken. There's a supermarket pretty much right next door to the Sandviken Brygge hotel.
Also noticed a newly opened Indian restaurant in Rosenkrantzgaten 5, a five-minute walk or so from Bergen Brygge hotel - I'm sure they'll have some veggie food on the menu but the place didn't look terribly cheap, I'm guessing around 150 NOK for a veggie main course.
thank you as always, FletteMette! Will check right before we leave to see if you have any oslo tips!
