Oslo luggage storage - getting from OSL airport to Stena Line / Vippentangen Quay?

by sashanyc28

Are there luggage storage facilities at the Vippentangen Quay?
Can anyone confirm?

My flight arrives at 12:20 in the afternoon at Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) airport on Sunday 11 July.

I will be boarding the Stena Line ferry for an overnight sail to Fredrikshavn,Denmark that same day. The ferry departs Oslo Vippentangen Quay at 19:30 (7:30pm) I am sure the boarding time is at least one hour before.

I will have at least 5 or 6 hours in between and I really would like to spend a few hours sightseeing around Oslo before I board the ship.

With that said I don't want to carry my suitcase around with me all day.

I know there is luggage storage at Sentralstasjon (Central Station) and I will more than likely take the Flytoget Express train to there from the airport.

However.. I was just wondering..
Is there any luggae storage facility at the Vippentangen Quay?

If so, Would it make sense to go directly there from Gardemoen airport and store the bag there and then go sightseeing? Seems like it would be easier than to have to backtrack to Central Station afterwards, get the luggage and then either take a bus or taxi to Vippentangen Quay from there..

What would be the cheapest way to get from Gardemoen airport (OSL) to the Stena Line ship at Vippentangen Quay? Is there a Flybussen station within walking distance from there?

Alternatively..
What is the cheapest way to get from Sentralstasjon (Central Station) to the Stena Line ship at Vippentangen Quay?

Many Thanks!!!

George

"Are there luggage storage facilities at the Vippentangen Quay? Can anyone confirm?" Yes

"If so, Would it make sense to go directly there from Gardemoen airport and store the bag there and then go sightseeing?" No

"Seems like it would be easier than to have to backtrack to Central Station afterwards, get the luggage and then either take a bus or taxi to Vippentangen Quay from there.. " Well, maybe after all, considering the ticket

"What would be the cheapest way to get from Gardemoen airport (OSL) to the Stena Line ship at Vippentangen Quay?" To take an ordinary local or region tran, repeat ordinary train, not "Flytoget" (Airport Express Train). Then you buy a local ticket that is also valid on the bus from Oslo S to Vippetangen (bus line 60, leaves every twenty minutes from Jernbanetorget, journey about ten minutes, it says "Vippetangen" on the buses going in the correct direction (the opposite direction is "Tonsenhagen")).

"Is there a Flybussen station within walking distance from there?" Forget about the bus

"Alternatively.. What is the cheapest way to get from Sentralstasjon (Central Station) to the Stena Line ship at Vippentangen Quay?" Single fare on the bus 60. Be aware of that the bus ticket costs Nkr 40,- if you buy it on the bus, Nkr 26,- if you prebuy it (f.x. on the Oslo S ticket encounter) But, as mentioned, if you buy an ordinary train ticket from Gardermoen (airport) to Oslo it's also valid on the bus to Vippetangen

I should point out that only if you go straight from Gardermoen via Oslo S to Vippetangen the train ticket is also valid on the bus to Vippetangen. It lasts for an hour after it's stamped.

Travel Tips for Oslo

17th of May

by glamourprincess

If you happen to visit Norway in the month of May, do not miss our National Day and the following celebration on May 17th. It is truly memorable, despite being chaotic and impossible to get around the city at that day. May 17th is celebrated from the early hours in the morning 'til late at night. Families with children start the day with speaches, school bands and school choirs at their school, from there everyone travels together down to the city to participate in the huge parade with children, marching bands, choirs - ages 6-18 years old. Everyone's wearing nice clothes and many wear the traditional 'bunad' (an old traditional outfit for finer events). There are flags everywhere (and people!). The parade continues down Karl Johan and towards the castle where the king and queen wave at the kids walking by. The parade ends at about 1 PM. From then on children are allowed to eat as much hot dogs and ice cream as they want all day(tradition), many families go to restaurants or go home to have family dinners. Afterwards there are games and happenings at different schools and in different parks, a huge celebration. I think May 17th can bea bit overwhelming for those unfamiliar to the celebration (at least in oslo - as many streets are blocked for traffic) but it's the children's day, so it's a fun thing to experience!

Funny elevator

by danteque

If they had never been to Oslo one of the things I would show them, was this elevator.

Running up and down the side of Scandinavia's largest hotel, and norway's tallest building; the outside-elevator of Radisson SAS plaza hotel.

Beautiful at night and day.

It's sort of tricky finding the elevator though. You might ask the recepsionists, but they have a rumour of being unfriendly at that hotel. I miss the cultural diversity of Oslo. I will move there in one year... though I will miss my home town, it would be impossible to live outside Oslo for me.

Take a walk on Aker brygge on...

by Marthe_Xora

Take a walk on Aker brygge on a summerday. Relax at in one of the outdoor-resturants and do some serious people-watshing. Visit Grønland, Gamlebyen and Grunerløkka to get different views of Oslo. You have to visit Holmenkollen, beatiful view and some good information about Norwegian skiers.

I always make sure I get a map of the places I'm going - it's always very helpful. If you take a look at the attached link you will find a map that enables you to close in on any detail you might be interested in in central Oslo.

Bernadotte

by GUYON

Have a look to Bernadotte statue, in front of the Royal Palace. Bernadotte (Karl Johan) was a Napoleon's Marshal.
He was chosen to be the King of Sweden and he was faithful to his new country against his former Emperor (Napoleon was very saddened of that).
So he was within the coalition against France and he received Norway as a reward. Fabulous fate, for a son of a poor French worker. His family is still on the Swedish throne.
