Kvikne's, Balestrand, Norway - Reviews and Hotel Information

This family run fjord hotel was one of the first of its kind in Norway. Its luxurious and extremely pretty Swiss style building was built in 1912. This old part of the Kvikne's hotel houses an extensive collection of artworks and antiques, which give it its special style and offers absolutely magnificent views towards the Sognefjord. The new building is monstrous multistory tower block doubled the rooms available (now 400). It is one of the largest tourist hotels in Norway and naturally not so picturesque as the old part. All rooms have pretty decent views as the hotel is located literally next to the fjord, but stilll.. They also have bath/shower and toilet and most have a balcony.

Some of the most prestigious clientèle have included the emperor and empress of Japan, the British Prime Minister Clement Atlee as well as artists like Hans F. Gude, Johannes Flintoe and Hans Dahl. Nowadays, most visitors are coach parties from Asia, Germany and other parts of the world.
