Able Gaard: Cottagesin Sogne Og Fjorden

Amble Gaard (Amble gård) is a big estate close to Kaupanger. It consists of the manor, several properties and several cottages for rent. Those cottages arte much more then just "hytters" and, imho, are as good for winders as they are for summers.
We were living for one week in the "Jogjerdet" cottage – the smallest (yet not small), the cheapest and probably the most loveable of all. It seats some 300 meters aside of the main estate land, absolutely isolated and surrounded by woods from three sides, while the forth side points to the fjord. Photos show real views from the main window of the living room.
It is easy to get there from by ferry from Flam or by speed boat from Bergen (requires changing to Flam ferry in the middle of the fjord). Amble Gaard is less 1km from Kaupanger quay. Car rental (Avid and Eurocar) is 2km from Kaupanger quay at the gas station on road 5 and supermarket is over there on the road. Sogndal airport is some 5 km from Amble Gaard.
Activities:
- Round trips over Sogn Og Fjorden. The place is very close to the strategic road 5.
- Fishing. The estate has light motor boats. Fishing in the fjord is easy for beginners and may even bring some results (see photos).
- The estate has multiple square miles of private forests, nice to trail and full of blackberries.

Sande Camping: The good camping on the beautyful Lovatnet lake

Sande Camping is located by the Loen Lake in one of Norway's most scenic valleys, Lodalen.
The grounds are surrounded by majestic mountains,waterfalls and glaciers. When you get to Loen, you
turn right towards Lodalen/Kjenndalsbreen/-glacier,and drive 4,5 km thru the valley.
Sande camping is a good starting point for both hiking in the mountains and the woods, guided glacier trips and day trips by car

MEETING POINT FOR GLACIER WALKS: PlusCamp Sande Camping

PlusCamp Sande is now meeting point for guided glacier walks on Bødal glacier. The guides live there the whole summer and you can talk to them and get information about the walk. You book the glacier walk in the reception at PlusCamp Sande or directly to the guide. You can also book the glacier walk when you book your cabin or apartment

Skei Servicecenter, Haugen Camping: At the foot of the glaciers

We came across this campsite coming back from our stay on Runde. It is directly by the road so may be noisy by day but no cars disturbed our sleep at night. As we stayed there in late August we had to get the key to our cabin from the Esso petrol station at Skei about 2 km away but in the high season the arrangement might be different.
We had a tiny cabin but there was a wardrobe, a double bed and we could sit on the verandah. The bathroom was communal but very modern and convenient. I don't remember any cooking facilities in the cabin itself but there was a kitchen in the communal building.
The great advantage was the price - only NOK180 per night, but it is probably higher earlier in the summer and of course larger cabins are more expensive.

The campsite is beautifully situated. There is a great view of a glacier from just outside the communal bathroom. Take your camera to the bathroom with you. Wish I had done that!
Right across the road there is a caravan site on the lake. You can admire the wonderful scenery from there too.
The place may be a starting point for trips to the glaciers of Jostedalsbreen.

Gloppen Camping og Fritidssenter AS: Campsite on Gloppenfjord

We stayed there for just one night. Our cabin, with a bunk bed but also a low table in the middle and a sofa to sit or even sleep on did not face the fjord but many of the others did. The campsite seemed to be well-organised and the nice middle-aged receptionist (owner?) offered us a cabin immediately. But this was the second fortnight in August when the children in Scandinavia are back at school so the season is practically over. It's a big campsite and might be crowded earlier in the summer. We used communal bathrooms which were OK, larger cabins had their own bathrooms. Of course our cabin had been cleaned before our arrival and we were expected to leave it clean too. We paid NOK 270 for the two of us.

What I liked most about the place was its location in a forest on the edge of a fjord, a nice area for walks. We were able to park the car right in front of our cabin, which was very convenient for unloading. Another great thing was the turf, or, in this case, more like wood growing on the roof of our cabin, which, like the nice red and white colour of the cabins, left us in no doubt that this was Norway. The place would be great for anglers, hikers and all lovers of outdoor activities.

This hotel is best suited for people who want an extra tranquility from the "hustle and bustle of the city life. Generous Sunday Dinner Buffet. Great views of the Norwegian fjords and mountains.

Quality Inn Hotel Forde: A fantastic hotel

Quality Inn Hotel Forde is a fantastic hotel. Located very closed to the major attractions of the Sogn og Fjordane Region it makes the best gateway to the discover of the region. It has got wide and clean rooms with nice furnitures. The hall is great with nice leather sofas and a charme which remember an pass time!!!!
The restaurant is great: you can taste fantastic salmon and deer!!! Great!!! A fantastic experience!!!

Blestrand Resort: A Sognefjord Tradition

I didn't stay here - but I hope to return someday. The Sognefjord boat makes a stop in the resort community of Balestrand, where this imposing resort hotel obviously enjoys wonderful views of lake and mountains.

A: "I don't think it's open at night. Why not try accommodation at nearby Voss?"
