Hiking trails around Stryn
by Diana75
Stryn is also a wonderful starting point for hiking in the mountains.
You can get to mountain farms, tall and steep mountains or glaciers if you want to.
The mountain farm of Meland is situated at 500 metres above sea level, and is an excellent walking tour in the evenings.
For those seeking something more vigorous, Storskrefjell is recommended at 1814 metres above sea level.

Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier area in on the mainland of Europe. At the end of Sognefjorden you'll find Jostedalsbreen. Jostedalsbreen glacier is 486 km² wide. The thickness of the Ice layer is probably 300 meters. Average height is 2000 meters above sea level. The most beautiful ones of this total field are:
Briksdalsbreen. It is possible to walk up to the glacier in about 45 minutes or 1 hour, (The road is sometimes very steep). For those who are not able to walk such a distance, is a carriage available, pulled by a fjord pony.
It is possible at Briksdalbreen to go up on the glacier with a Norwegian guide. If you want to know what this costs ask at the souvenirshop near the parking area.
Another beautiful glacier is the Nigardsbreen on the other side of the Icefield. It can be reached by boat, after you arrive you only have 15 minutes to walk to the glacier. It is easy to walk.
The third one you can visit is the Kjenndalsbreen. It can only be reached by foot, but it is a very easy way to walk. However the most beautiful thing is the road towards the glacier along Lovatnet a very lovely blue-green looking lake. There are a lot of beautiful flowers over here, like little wild Orchids.
You can visit a glacier museum, Norsk Bremuseum near the village of Fjærland at the Fjærlandsfjord. If you visit this area stay at least a week, to get know this unique piece of Europe.
There is also a museum in Oppstryn at the Strynvatnet it is called then Jostedalsbreen Nasjonalpark center.
