The house we stayed in was just great. It consisted of a living-room cum kitchen and a double bedroom downstairs, a sleeping area reached by ladder upstairs and a bathroom, plus a verandah, and a beautiful garden with a special place for a bonfire. We only stayed one night in a hurry to reach the fjords but it's a good place for a longer holiday too. Situated on the slope of a hill, it offers great views of the valley below. There is a river, the Fjellgardselva, nearby, where you can both fish and bathe. We spent a nice long evening in the garden accompanied by a white cat with ginger patches, a very sociable creature.
The owner has a few summer cottages to let , so you may choose a different one.
A very pretty house, all in wood, beautifully situated on the slope of a hill, with a lovely sunny garden. Suitable for a family with not too young children, who will enjoy climbing the ladder to their bedroom, playing in the garden, bonfires and bathing in the river.

I have never been there, I just wanted to tell you that it is situated in Notodden, and that the right adress is: Torvet 8, N-3674 Notodden. Telemark is a county, and as such does not have a zip code.
Whether you need a place to sleep for the night or just want to take a lunch break, Dalen Hotel is a great place to stop! It is situated by the lake Bandak almost in the middle of Telemark, and in the middle of southern Norway, and looks like a fairytale castle. It is an excellent starting point for a tour on the Telemark Canal.
The pictures were taken in september 1994 when we stopped for lunch on the way back to Stavanger after visiting my newborn granddaughter in Kongsberg. We did not stay the night, but the lunch was great, and the ambience incredible! The hotel is situated in Tokke municipality in Telemark, was built in 1884, renovated in the 1980-s and reopened in 1992. Dalen Hotel has been visited by royalties, other prominent people and LOTS of ordinary people like you and me!
A double room cots NOK 1200 / night, which means it is not very expensive if two people share.
The hotel is closed between 1 november and 6 june.
Pic 2 is a closeup of the car that was parked in front of the hotel.
* I don't know who put the name Viking in front of the hotel name here on VT, the name of the hotel is "Dalen Hotel". "Viking Dalen" is the local branch of Viking rescue service.*
Take a look at their website!
