The hotel is quite nice but you might find bugs. It is centrally located in the heart of the town, right in the middle of the water with great views of the Arctic Cathedral. Unique architecture.

Sea front view
Ishavshotellet of the Rica chain is a medium class business and conference hotel that also caters to local needs; e.g. parties, family meets etc. It is among the bigger hotels in Tromsø. I spent three nights here, while on a work assignment, and had their breakfast buffet, working lunch and dinner in their eateries. They have 180 rooms, 2 bars, 1 restaurant, conference capacity for 450 people.
Unique Quality: Good view to the sea front houses, quay, Tromsø bridge and the mainland.
The location is excellent for reaching everything in the centre by foot. They offer various touristic services - I guess it is common to all hotels in Tromsø. Luggage lockers if you want to check out but still hang around town for a while.

Nearest hotel to the Hurtigruten stop
We're "hooked" on the Hurtigruten (and Norway!). What's the nearest hotel to the Hurtigrute dock? Last year we were in Harstad and the dock was about 100m away from the hotel. Cool! and so convenient :)

I think Amalie hotel and Radisson SAS are the ones closest to Hurtigruten in Tromsø and I'm not surprised if it's less than 100m away.

Thanks 30something. Less than 100m? Hmmm sounds good! I've read recommendations on Amalie Hotel. Will check that out. How far is it from the city?

Not to worry. Found the website. Amalie Hotell looks like it's a stone's throw away from Tromso Cathedral.

Hurtigruten docks right in the centre of Tromsø, so all the centrally located hotels are pretty close to hurtigruten...:o)
The closest one is probably the Rica Ishavshotel, which is located pretty much *on* the Hurtigrute quay....;o)

Thanks Mette. Yeah... interesting architecture. Thought it looked like it was IN the water. Bit pricey, though. Will see how generous we are when it's nearer the time. btw, our plan is to be in Tromso in March 2007.
