Pet friendly hotel
My son and I were driving a moving load from Stavanger to Brøsjø, starting late one evening in 1999 after work / school and packing a lot of stuff into the car. About half way I realized we would get there very late, and that the fridge was empty (did we even have a fridge there at the time?) I did not want to spend time on finding a cheap place to stay the night, just drove into Kristiansand and to Hotel Caledonien. It is the largest hotel on the southern coast and easy to spot :-) I do not remember what we paid, only that it was a good bargain, but the big question was: Would they accept our pet rats? It was a cold evening, and even though there is an indoor parking, I did not want to leave them in the car over the night. I promised I would keep them in the locked cage all the time, and they accepted them! :-)
As with most norwegian city hotels prices are lower during weekends, and there is always a possibility of making a good bargain if they have many vacancies. Normal price for a normal room is NOK 1095 / night.
Later I have heard from others, too, that it is a pet friendly hotel, and a good business hotel as well, with feminine rooms for busy business women :-)
Unique Quality: Pet friendly, centrally located and a great reataurant.

A good business hotel in Kristiansand
Stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it. It is a fairly big hotel - 12 floors and with good facilites overall.
Rooms are comfortable, Scandinavian style simplicity mixed with good quality. The hotel has seen some years pass by, and certain things seem a bit old-fashioned. Good air-con control - you are not stuck with what the management think is good for you.
The hotel restaurant "Casablanca" is a strange mix of filmatic themes and the maritime. The lobby bar/pub is a good meeting place with its set-up of chairs and tables. The breakfast restaurant was fine, nothiong out of the ordinary.
The view to the container harbour was a bit off.
Unique Quality: The business room has a good working space and other facilities that successfully combines comfort and work.
