The oldest town of Norway

Tonsberg is a very nice town located on the south of Norway in the Tonsbergfjorden and it is only 10 chilometres far from the town of Sandefjord.
Historians think that the town existed before the war of Hafsfjord (fight in the 872 AD). For this reason Tonsberg is the oldest town of Norway: more than 1100 years old!!!
The name of Tonsberg mean Hill of the farm and it is related to the Farm of Hauger. In this farm there are the tomb of the kings Olaf from Vestfold and Sigrod from Trondelag that fought against in the battle of Hauger. Following in the town was built the Royal Palace. In the 17th century it was a very important harbour and in the 1850 it had got the biggest navy of Norway.
Today it is a very nice town where to spend a nice day.

"KING OF TØNSBERG"
It is I infront of a view of Tønsberg from the slottsfjell.
"SLOTTSFJELLET"
This is me, again, infront of the slottsfjellet. Meaning the castle-mountain. It WAS a big castle here for many years ago.
Tønsberg is Norway's oldest city. This is just a tower reminding us of the castle that used to be on top of the "mountain".
"HOTELS"
There are many hotels in Tønsberg. It's Norway's summer city.
In the summer it is very nice by the harbour, where most of the hotels are suited.
This is the newest hotel. Also my earlier workplace.

The small town of Tønsberg, Vestfold, is considered to be the oldest town in Norway (founded c. AD 871) and it became an important trading centre in the Viking age. In the 13th century King Håkon Håkonsson built his castle, Tønsberghus, there. The town was destroyed by fire in 1536, and it was not until the 18th and 19th centuries that it became a major port again and one of Norway's major shipping and whaling centres. Tourist attractions include the ruins of the Tønsberghus, St. Michael's Church, the Royal Castle, and St. Olav´s Church. In nearby village Åsgårdstrand Edvard Munch lived when he returned home from abroad. It is there that many of his famous paintings were set.
