Pension Eugeniusz Sokol in Waniewo: A surprise find

Our host Eugeniusz Sokol, greeted our tri-nationality party (Polish, German, and English) in each of our native languages, before returning to his native Polish to explain the significance of the rare species of toad that was lounging and loping around in the twilight at the entrance to the hotel. The hotel is located behind the village mayor’s house, in the village of Waniewo, our base for the weekend. It is the result of a twelve year partnership between Eugeniusz and a German man from Hanover who first visited on a Eugeniusz-guided trip, and fell in love with the place, so much so that he decided to enter into a partnership which culminated in the building of the hotel, an impressive three story building which nevertheless blends seemlessly into its rural setting.
