Gdansk Airport to Sopot.

by smartie1947

Short break planned in Sopot shortly.
Can anyone advise if there is a direct public transport link between the airport and Sopot, without the need to go into Gdansk? With luggage this can be a hassle.
What would be the approx cost of a taxi from the airport to Sopot?
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

None direct to Sopot. However Bus 110 goes to WRZESZCZ PKP station from which you can take the train to Sopot. You avoid the city center traffic.

Well, watch out for that bus to Wrzeszcz, because there is a detour. (I just went to polish web site) Bus stops at the Wrzeszcz train station only on the way to the airport but it does not stop there on the way from the airport.

Ask the taxi driver (ask few of them)first how much he will charge for ride to Sopot, if that is expensive I am sure there is plenty of help at the airport to let you know which bus to take.

You can also ask the taxi to drop you to the closest train station, and then take a local train to Sopot.

here is "how to arrive" page and there is also tourist information booth on the airport.

Thanks to all responses above.

Jawnuta, you are confusing the routes for Bus Lines B and 110. B does not stop at WRZESZCZ PKP train station, leaving from the airport, stopping only on the way to the airport. However Bus 110 originates and terminates at WRZESZCZ PKP. See list of stops:
http://zkm.trojmiasto.pl/l_zkm_visual.phtml?linia=110
There is construction at the station which may change the route in the area of the station; however the terminus is there.

Henry, I guess you are right, sorry :-)

Jawnuta, no problem. I have said some sorries myself.

Going via Wrzeszcz can be risky, anyway, because of road works and massive traffic jams.
I'd rather go by taxi, the cost is about 50 zloty(depends on traffic), if at night or holiday -it's 50% more. The name of the company I've recently taken was super hallo taxi, the telephone number (58)91-91

Travel Tips for Sopot

Events in the Molo pier

by gosiaPL

The pier is Sopot's most popular place for outdoor events, pop music concerts, marketing promotions, etc. With the crowds of people there, they are bound to get some interest. I saw a cha-cha class in a big tent sponsored by one of the coffee companies. The whole area was filled with cha-cha tunes which put everybody in good mood. You could enter the tent and participate in the class provided you bought two sachets of flavoured instant coffee... Yuk, I abstained and watched from a distance. There's noting like real coffee :-)

Plac Zdrojowy

When you're walking on Monte Cassino heading east toward the water, you'll pass through this pleasant square filled with outdoor cafes, flowers, fountains and plenty of places to grab a "lody" (ice cream). There is a sculpture of a fisherman here that is a reminder of Sopot's past as a small fishing village. Take a few minutes to enjoy the atmosphere before heading down to the waterfront.

Just past this on your right hand side you'll see the building seen in my second picture. The tall tower is a lighthouse, but I don't know much else about it. The cross-street here is Grunwaldzka, which runs parallel to the beach. There's a smaller path even closer to the water that's a popular place for a stroll along the waterfront.

The Lower Part..

same church again but this time the lower part.

I am a sucker for churches, maybe. I always want to see from the bottom till the top. If I couldn't, I would make several parts of the church in photos.

Neat huh ?

Viewing deck in the lighthouse

by gosiaPL

The lighthouse with the viewing deck is a part of the Balneological Plant. It dates back to 1904 when it was built as a chimney for the plant, but the designers were not happy with just a chimney so they made it into a lighthouse with a viewing deck, wasn't that a great idea. There's a small admission fee for those who want to see the beaches and the long pier from above.

Sopot the City in Between

by madejka

Sopot is my city, I was born and raised here ... but as many before I decided to move out as soon as I turned 18. I studied in Warsaw but after that something kept pulling me back to Sopot. It is a lovely place but crowded with tourists at all times. It is beautifull in the summer and melancholic in the winter. This is my city, what else to say.
