Cafe town
by acemj
Sopot is a place of leisure and if you've had enough of the beach life in summer or enough shopping and strolling on Monte Cassino, you'll have plenty of places to choose from to grab a cup of coffee or tea and a tasty pastry. I had a coffee at Cafe Art Deco, which is at the upper (western) end of Monte Cassino (you have to go under the tracks). It's an interesting place that tries to live up to its name as far as that architecture goes. I'm not sure if it succeeds in that, but the coffee is good. Look for it when you come up from the stairs underneath the train tracks in a small courtyard on your right.
Lay back on the beach
by gosiaPL
Sopot is famous for its sandy beaches, and they can be very crowded. You get a good view of the beach from the pier on both its sides. It was a hot and humid day when Janet and I were there, and a little foggy when we got to the pier (it happens in the Gdansk Bay). The sea was very calm. A lot of people were on the beach but we only wet our feet, hanged about for a little while and went for a drink. To tell you the truth, I prefer the beaches in the open sea, not the ones in the Bay of Gdansk :-)
Walk the beach...dip your toes...sun bathe
by Pawtuxet
Of course there is a lot of sun bathing going on...but we just dipped our toes and did some walking on the beach...which was sooo welcome cause we were there on one of the hottest days of this past summer. Thought we would roast. Sure does you good to get in that wet sand and play with the little waves.
Take a break in the shade
by Pawtuxet
There is a park-like area at the end of the business strip going down hill toward the beach and the board walk. It's pleasant to sit in the shade for a while on such a hot day. It was a good spot to sit and get the sand off your feet before putting your shoes back on. That's always an interesting challenge when you go to the beach, isn't it?
Sopot, Poland

"Nice beach town!"
Lots of nice places to stay at and a lot of good restaurants. This is the Polish version of Newport Beach in Southern California. If you come to Sopot, don't miss taking the 50-minute train ride to Malbork Castle. You'll also just enjoy the cafes along the beach. The "old town" of Gdansk is also a short train ride away.
"Side trip to Malbork Castle"
From Sopot this is a 50-minute train ride away. Established as the base of the Northern Crusades, to convert the pagans, this site is very impressive. If you like history, you will enjoy seeing this large castle.
"Old Town Gdansk"
In 15-minutes you can take the train from Sopot to Gdansk. The old town is very attractive. If you go in August you'll probably find the marching bands going by.
