Dom nad Hancza: For peace and nature lovers
We came across this beautiful corner of the earth trying to get to Lake Hancza. We didn't stay there but we hope to someday. The house is beautifully situated where the River Czarna (black) Hancza flows into Lake Hancza. The hosts have boats for hire and we could actually see a couple of foreign tourists launching one. There is also a campsite near the house so you can put up your tent. The only condition is that it's a private land and a nature reserve so even though there is a special place for bivouacking on the bank, you can make a fire but have to restrain from making noise. The place is so enchanting that it is worth visiting even if you don't stay there. In this case, you must leave your car in the car park at the top and walk down to the lake.
BTW, Lake Hancza is the deepest lake in Poland so you'd better be able to swim if you want to swim in it. No fishing is allowed though - the area is part of a nature reserve. More about the lake in my Things to Do tips.
Unique Quality: The hosts have their own private (grassy) beach on the lake. The silence means that you can encounter wildlife and watch the waterfowl.

Maria Miecielica's Farm: Staying on a farm
We stayed there for a week, enjoying the landlady's delicious cooking, well, a little too fatty for me, as is the custom in that area, but my husband enjoyed his meals very much and I loved the homemade cakes.
The woman rents out three or four rooms on the first floor, with small private bathrooms. The TV is in the dining room downstairs, where all the guests meet for meals. It's more like a family house than a hotel and guests can use the kitchen to prepare something extra, but you won't be able to eat anything else after the enormous meals you'll get.
The place is not too attractive, with no forest nearby but there is a lake, a little overgrown with rushes so you can only get into the water from the small pier. The house is hard to find and the road leading to it is bumpy but there is no traffic so you can enjoy peace and quiet.
For amateurs of country living.
A place that I would prefer to stay in if I were going there again is Smolniki, a nice village with a forest and a lake with a pier, where we had a picnic one day.
Unique Quality: A nice place to stay with children, who can feed and cuddle the farm animals, like pigs (I did mind the smell of the pigsty a little), sheep, goats, little calves, cats. But children must be looked after to prevent them from falling in the lake. Dogs are welcome.
The food is prepared from local produce, a lot better than that from supermarkets. The landlady makes wonderful cottage cheese, cures ham and bacon and even produces her own cheese. Gourmets of the world, here's your heaven.
