Aula Leopoldina
by magor65
The thick oak door leading to the Aula is decorated with Piast and Jagiellon ( royal dynasties) eagles. The interior is full of unique sculptures, frescos and mouldings. Particularly impressive is the vaulting fresco depicting Saint Leopold - patron of the University and John the Baptist (with cross and lamb) - patron of Wroclaw. Nowadays in this magnificent hall are held such distinguished ceremonies as : inauguration of academic year or awarding honorary doctorates. Then you can see University professors in traditional academic attire.
Polish Money: Zloty
by HORSCHECK
Although Poland joined the European Union (EU) on the 1st of May 2004, they don't have the Euro as currency.
Poland's currency is still the Zloty. 1 Zloty is worth 100 Grosz. You can get your money with your credit or debit card from cash points or just by exchanging your local money at one of the bureaux de change.
Szczytnicki Park
by magor65
The biggest and oldest park in the city was founded in 1785 in the place of woods and bogs. It was gradually transformed into a park in English style. Today it's a favourite Sunday walking place for Wroclaw's inhabitants, especially in spring and summer when rhododendron groves and rose-gardens are at their best.
Szczytnicki park is situated in the souther part of the city between People's Hall and Olimpic Stadium.
train and bus
by call_me_rhia
Getting to Wroclaw by train - it`s a comfortable train ride from Germany or from other Polish cities - and the station (Wroclaw Glowny) is an example of pretty Polish buildings. It looks a little like a fairytale castle. It`s obviously a historical monument. The bus station, right behind it, after a long tunnel, is obviously not a historical monument: concrete rules here! From there, you can fid several buses connecting to most Polish cities and some international buses, too.
