Hi,

As always, http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e is your friend for looking up train schedules in most of Europe.

For 26 Oct, the following direct TLK-connections exist :
Gdansk dep. 0717 - 1115 - 1602 - 2105
Torun arr. 1045 - 1443 - 1936 - 0036

For 28 Oct, I can find the following :
Torun dep. 0840 - 1309 - 1754
Gdansk arr. 1303 - 1740 - 2219

Pricewise (source www.tlk.pl) : 42 Zloty (2nd cl), 62 Zloty (1st cl) one-way.

Kind regards,
Bart W

Hello!
The BEST site for Polish trains is the rail company's own site, http://rozklad-pkp.pl/?q=en/node/143, (this is the English version) where you will get the times, fares, intermediate stops and map. I never use any other site when I'm going to Poland.
Regards Lars.

Travel Tips for Torun

The Raftsman of Torun

by magor65

Torun is located on the Vistula river, which for centuries has been used for transport. No wonder then that the rafting tradition is very strong here and that one of the best known town legends is connected with the raftsman.
After a very wet summer thousands of frogs appeared in the city. They were everywhere - in the streets, houses, even in the Town Hall. Something had to be done. There were many attempts to get rid of the disgusting creatures but all ended in failure. At last a clever but poor raftsman managed to lead the frogs out of the town playing his violin. As a reward he married a beautiful daughter of mayor of Torun. Of course they lived long and happily.

Gingerbread

by Kinia

As I said Torun is famous for its gingerbread. You can buy all differnet kinds of it. Some kinds look like work of art and I dont really know if one can eat them ;-) They are so cute that people buy them for presents. I remember my friend bought a box of gingerbread for her friend from India. He told me later he had thrown them away since they were too hard!!! how could he??? ;-)

The Pied Piper of Torun?

by acemj

You've all heard of the Pied Piper, right? Well, Torun's version of this story is immortalized by the bronze fountain in the Old Town Square, which depicts a boy with a fiddle surrounded by little frogs. The legend says that a witch tried to live in Torun and when she was turned away, she cast a curse on the town causing the Torun to be invaded by frogs. Then, the fiddle playing boy came along and enchanted the frogs with his beautiful playing. They followed him out of the Torun and the town was saved.

Day trip: Chelmza town

by sihi

Staying in Torun for several days it is worth to do day trip to quiet town of Chelmza, that is situated in 20 km from Torun. It is former capital of region, town with well preserved urban building system. Over the old town tower two medieval churches.
Especially Chelmza is good in summer, becouse there is lake Chelmzynskie with beach just 10 minuts walk form old town square. Good place for swimming and sun bathing.

Copernicus on a wall :-)

by matcrazy1

Southern wall of the university aula where my professional convention took place look quite nice. Notice Copernicus face at top-left corner. The buildings of the university don't look nice just except this wall, I think.
