I would like to go from lodz to gabin with public transportation. What is the best way to do that? Is it easier to go from warsaw to gabin?

Travel Tips for Lodz

Very easy to buy things.

by pondo19

In Lodz, is very easy to buy things. There are lots of small shops, better of kiosks, in which you can buy what you want: paper, cigarette, cold or hot drinks, fruits, vegetables, bread and so on.
Even if it seems closed, try to open!

Teatr Wielki (Grand Theatre). ...

by Wiktoria

Teatr Wielki (Grand Theatre). This is an outstanding opera house (opereta and balets too). It's highly renowned opera house and it comes in only second after Warsaw. The productions are not to be missed (unless you are in Lodz in the summer when Teatr Wielki is closed). The stage is enormous. The tallest part you can see in the picture is where all the mechanisms (e.g. lifts) are (just above the stage). You cannot even see the entire theatre in this picture. There is a walkway over the street connecting the main theatre with another building. This other building is where stage decorations as well as the costumes are made. The first time I went to see an opera here I was 6 and I've been a great fan of this place ever since.
There is a cafe next to the lobby that you can visit before a performance. Also, you can enjoy nice refreshments between the acts.

Many people think that Lodz is grey. That's not true. Lodz has many beautiful parks like Park Julianowski, Zdrowie, Sienkiewicza, Helenow, ks. Poniatowskiego (pictured here) and the Poland's largest forest within the city limits, Lagiewniki.

Cheap internet access

by alancollins

I stayed at the Ibis Hotel and when I was overtaken by events involving the ash cloud I needed access to the internet. I tried the hotel first and discovered they charged 14 PLN for 15 minutes. I wondered why the terminal was always free and now I knew the reason why - rip off prices. So next I tried the Silver Screen Cinema Complex, there, the charge was 4 PLN for 15 minutes, getting better but still expensive. Then I was told that Media Markt in Galeria Lódzka had internet access at a reasonable price. So off I went and checked, yes they had 4 terminals and it only cost 2 PLN for 60 minutes. Things were looking good but then I found out there was a problem with their system and an engineer had been called out. Back to the drawing board. I eventually tried later that day and things were working normally. You purchase a 2 PLN ticket at the check out and take it to the desk by the computer terminals and they will log you on. So if you want cheap internet access go to the Media Markt shop in Galeria Lódzka.

Industrial architecture

by sphynxxs

Not far from Piotrkowska Street and its palaces it is not hard to trace back the industrial architecture that once changed the Lodz landscape. While there is some textile industry left, other buildings are empty now, or serve as museums or culture centres. While they lack splendor, their "industrial esthetics" is an interesting contrast against the luxurious dwellings of the "Lodz aristocracy"
