Lublin Museum at the castle

The museum has a variety of exhibits: archeological artifacts, old coins from 10th-20th c., old guns and swords, china & silverware, regional folk costumes, antique furniture, and many other objects.
A large part of the museum is occupied by the Gallery of Polish Paintings and that is simply a must! I had no idea that the gallery houses masterpieces by some of our finest painters: Matejko, Kossak, Wyspianski or Malczewski.
If you go there, check the Unia Lubelska by Matejko in its natural size of 2.89x5.12m (9x16ft) - just sit on the couch there and, I guess the word is... explore this painting :-)
Entry to the museum is 6 zl ($1.5) but the 10 zl ($2.5) ticket will also include the Holy Trinity Chapel (see my Must-See tip about it). Picture taking in the museum will cost you additional 35 zl (about $9) but this excludes the chapel, I'm afraid... Visiting the gallery, definitely. It made me rediscover the Polish school of painting , I really got hooked now! That's why I download art pictures here and there in my homepage and Polish travelpages. You'll see more in time so please bear with me ;-)
Free map of Lublin

Lublin's Tourist Information Office is well equipped with many free brochures and maps. There is also a section where you can buy all sorts of souvenirs as well as travel guides about Lublin and the surrounding region.
I picked up a large free A3 map of Lublin. Beside a short description of the main sights it also included information about the "Tourist Routes of Lublin". Please read my "Transportation tip - Explore Lublin on foot" for more info about these.
The Tourist Information Office of Lublin can be found at the street ul. Jeszuicka 1/3, which is just at the beginning of the old town when coming through the Krakow Gate.

Gates
by gale.blog.pl
On your way around Lublin Old Town you'll certainly see numerous dark passages and gates leading to nobody knows what. I'm really very fond of visiting those mysterious and dangerous places - off the beaten path but right in the middle of the most popular routes.
I can almost hear the walls talk...
Firlej
by leffe3
40kms north of Lublin and a couple of kms beyond Lubartow is the highway town of Firlej. Virtually nothing here at first until you turn right heading north of the highway and there's the lake and what is obviously a recreation centre for families. It's wonderful - a series of small cottages and huts around the lakeside - BBQ areas, access for swimming and baoting, campsites etc.. But all very low key and uncommercialised. It took us completely by surprise.
