which airport

by juzz

Hi everybody,
which is the best airport to go to Lublin? I have low cost flights to Katowice and Krakow, is there an easy way to reach Lublin from those 2 airports?

Thanks
Sergio

You need to get to city center and take bus or train.
Krakow has more buses to Lublin.

Rzeszów also has low cost flights and is closer: 3:30 by direct bus.

Travel Tips for Lublin

discovering backyards in the old town

by sphynxxs

The old town of Lublin has preserved much of iths original character, looking even a bit run down in comparison to the renovated facades in Krakow or other more touristic cities. I personally like just to walk a bit through narrow lanes and backyards where you still can fond little shops and workshops.

Lithuanian Square

by HORSCHECK

The large Lithuanian Square (plac Litewski) got its name from the Lithuanian gentry who stayed here during the debates about the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Union of Lublin) in 1569.

The Union of Lublin is commemorated by the Lublin Union Monument. The cast iron obelisk can be found near the south western end of the square.

Not far from the obelisk stands Lublin's oldest hotel. Hotel Europa was built in Polish Renaissance style in the late 19th century.

The Jozef Pilsudski Monument was erected in 2001 near the south western end of the Lithuanian Square. He was the Chief of State of the second Polish Republic and he stayed several times in Lublin.

Nowadays the Lithuanian Square with its large green areas is a popular recreation area for the local people.

Polish Money: Zloty

by HORSCHECK

Although Poland joined the European Union (EU) on the 1st of May 2004, they don't have the Euro as currency. Poland's currency is still the Zloty. 1 Zloty is divided into 100 Grosz and the official currency code is PLN.

There are plans that Poland might introduce the Euro as official currency in 2013.

I got my Polish Zloty from cash points (ATMs), which are widely available in Lublin, especially in the touristy city centre.

Zamoyski Palace, Lubartow

by leffe3

Approximately 35kms north of Lublin is the impressive Zamoyski Palace just to the west of Lubartow in the hamlet of Kozlowka. It is one of the grandest palaces in the region. Built in the 1740s by the Bielinski family before it came into the hands of the Zamoyski family, it's the usual barrage of excess - opulent, extraordinary, OTT. The grounds are extensive and were constantly worked on up until WWII.

New Jewish cemetery

by HORSCHECK

The new Jewish cemetery (Nowy cmentarz zydowski) was established in 1829 at a time when the Jews constitued almost half of Lublin's inhabitants. During WWII the cemetery was completely destroyed by Nazis.

The cemetery has been renovated by a foundation of private people. The newly built memorial room at the entrance houses a small exhibition. Unfortunately both the cemetery and the memorial room were closed when we visited the place in the late afternoon.

Directions
The new Jewish cemetery can be found about 1,5 kilometres northeast of Lublin's old town, just next to the Catholic cemetery (Cmentarz Rzymskokatolicki).
