THE FLORIANSKA GATE - BRAMA FLORIANSKA
by LoriPori
Built at the end of XIII century to protect the northern entrance to the city of Krakow THE FLORIANSKA GATE or BRAMA FLORIANSKA is the main city gate. The roof, built in the barocque style, was constructed in 1660 by Jan Zaleski. An interesting part of the gate (inside the gate) is the altar to the Holy Mother of Piaski. On the first floor is the chapel constructed in 1885-86 by Wladyslaw Czartoryski.
The elevation shows the Polish Eagle, symbol of Poland's first rulers.
From Florianska Street, you can see the XV11 century Saint Florian Frieze. Both sides of the gate are flanked by the Medieval Walls.
Most days you will see artists and their paintings being shown just to the side of the Gate.
I thought it was a beautiful building and just couldn't help taking many pictures of it.
Cloth Hall
by Ash59
The building that dominates the square is the Cloth Hall (know as Sukiennice), which still fulfils its original function as a trading centre of art and crafts, although it originately was designed as a place to trade cloth.
Incidently, the red parasols that you can see in front of the hall marks the spot of a Cafe, which makes some rather fine snacks, cakes and coffee for the weary traveller.
KEEP KRAKOW CLEAN
by DAO
Because of its previous Communist history, Krakow is a wonderfully clean city. The residents of this great city take pride in their community and are pleased with all the restoration that has taken place over the last few years. Please respect them and their beautiful and historic city. Do not litter. There are plenty of litter bins to put your rubbish into. They even have ones for you to dispose of your cigarettes in a safe and respectful manner. In addition the city has a very big Police force who will not hesitate to punish you for any anti-social behaviour.
Have a good time and please dispose of rubbish properly.

The Crypt in the Church of St Peter and Paul
by christine.j
This is another hidden treasure. Outside of the church there are sculptures of the 12 apostles. Inside there is the entrance to the crypt, entrance fee was 1 Zloty, I think, maybe two.In the crypt there was a tomb, with many small papers lying around. I later found out it is the tomb of a famous Polish priest from the 16th century and people leave letters with pleas to him. The tomb was guarded by statues of silver beasts. There was no English explanation whatsoever, you could feel this was not intended for tourists. it really felt like a special place, just a few steps away from the main tourist sights..
