The Market Square - Rynek Glowny
by tini58de
The Market Square is the biggest (or one of the biggest) market squares in all Europe. It is divided in two halves by the huge building of the Cloth Hall. The St. Mary's Church is definitely a Must See and do pay attention to the flower market, which has been here since the 17th century! So you see, there is a lot to discover around here! For more information, do have a look at the "things to do" section (if you haven't been there already)!
WAWEL CASTLE - ZAMEK WAWELSKI
by LoriPori
The originally Gothic WAWEL CASTLE or ZAMEK WAWELSKI, was built by Casimir II the Great and consisted of a number of structures situated around the central courtyard.
The Gothic structures were severely damaged in a fire in 1499. It was rebuilt in the 15th century in a Renaissance style as it is this present day.
Situated on a limestone hill (Wawel Hill) overlooking the Vistula River.
Hans and I visited Wawel Castle on the Monday after the VT Meet. It was a nice walk from our B& B Unikat. The first thing we saw, after climbing a sloping hill, were the Entrance Gates - Herbowa Gate (photo #1). The massive and beautiful Wawel Cathedral was to the right. That day there were many school group tours, so it was quite busy. Across from the Cathedral was a sculpture dedicated to Pope John Paul II. As you walk further, to the right is the Devil's Tower. To the right along the path, you have wonderful vistas of the Vistula River. Further on you come to the exit Gate or Brama Bernardynska.
Tipping
by Alicja1
Not everywhere tipping is expected. We dont tip bartender in the pub, but we do tip if we sit in outside garden. We do tip waiters! watch out, if you give your money to pay the bill dont say "thank you" till you receive your change, then give a tip. If you say "Thank you" to quicly you will land with no change at all, because waiter will understand "no change please"

Eagles' Nests Trail (2)
by gosiaPL
The natural characteristics of the jurassic rocky region was appreciated in the early Middle Ages for its defence qualities. The largest system of fortifications was created in the 14th c. by king Casimir the Great and the Polish knighthood:
29 castles and 10 fortified sentry points were built, often using the natural features of the region: castles were often built in such a way that the rocks are a part of the structure.
Today these are mostly just ruins but what picturesque castle ruins they are!
The trail is called Eagles' Nests because some of the ruins are pretty hard to get to, just like eagles' nests! :-)
