myslenice

can you get a bus directly from Krakow airport to myslenice or do you need to go to the centre of Krakow first and then get another bus?

Re: myslenice

to the center (it takes 15minutes by train).

Go to the city center in the 192 bus from the airport, then you get off at the main bus station (near the train station Dworzec Glowny and big shopping center Galeria Krakowska) and there are minibuses and regular buses going to Myslenice (25 km away. In the bus you have to buy tickes and punch them, they cost 3 zlotys when bought in the bus from the driver and 2,50 in the kiosk, also ticket needed for big luggage(suitcase size or bigger).

The bus number from the airport has changed recently and now it is 292 (not 192)!

Travel Tips for Krakow

Good Tour Company

by Jmill42

Cracow tours (a division of Orbis) is the company I took for the trip to the salt mines. I basically wanted to do something, but not too strenuous, becasue I was sick. I wanted no part in the planning, just wanted to go, thats why I booked a tour.

This tour company was great, and provided transportation to and from the mines, and a tour guide at the mines, with no wait. Exactly what I wanted.

They offer a variety of tour, but I can only say that the salt mine tour was good. An added benefit for students, is that they give 50%percent off all tours. www.cracow-tours.pl

Another masterpiece on Market...

by rolnik

Another masterpiece on Market Square are Sukiennice (Clothes Halls)- perhaps the most characteristic landmark in Krakow. This beautiful Ranaisannce building is situated exactly in the middle of the square. In the former times it was used as a place for selling clothes and another goods which traders brought to Krakow. What is so unique- it is the attic- full of small sculptures and brillantly designed and ,off course the yellow colour which makes the atmosphere around cheerful at any time of the day. Inside, there are stalls with souvenirs, and on the 1st floor there’s a gallery of best Polish painters (for me very interesting)

Kazimierz is the old Jewish...

by richiecdisc

Kazimierz is the old Jewish part of the city. It has undergone a huge renovation and is a popular night spot now. Walking around the empty streets is often eerily disheartening to imagine that, at one point, this was once a vibrant Jewish community before the Nazis packed them off and sent them off to closeby Podgorze, a virtual ghetto.

When visiting Krakow and surrounding areas I used as my main tool Lonely Planets Central Europe guidebook.
It offers a wealth of information on what to see, where to stay and how to get there.

Ghetto Wall remnant

by Ben-UK

A small remnant of the ghetto wall remains on ul. Lwowska in the Podgorze district, across the river from Kazimierz.

If you're walking from Krakow centre, go all the way down ul. Starolwislna until you get to the river - cross the river and Plac Bohaterow Getta (Heroes of the Ghetto) will be on your right - just after that on your left is ul. Lwowska -- walk along there & you'll come to the wall remnant on your right.

In 1941, the Nazis created a ghetto here, surrounded by a wall, into which the city's Jewish population was herded. From here, until its final liquidation in 1943, Jews were deported to various concentration camps such as Belzec, Auschwitz-Birkenau & the nearby Plaszow.
