Underground Krakow
by matcrazy1
There are a lot of underground artists in Krakow and there are a lot of underground cellars to visit there. Most of restaurants in historic old town offer sometimes huge, sometimes small cellars for their costumers, often with live music inside (jazz, piano).
As for me I still discover more and more of them - tenths, maybe hundreds still to visit.
Just the last one on my picture, visited with Kathy (Kodi01) in October 2003: cellar of Wierzynek restaurant. Watch your steps going downstairs :-))).
Florianska Street
by Ash59
If you walk northeast past St Mary’s Church, you will enter into traffic free Florianska Street and be heading toward the Florian Gate.
You may find local people selling cheese from paniers down this street. The cheese that they sell is a smoked and quite hard and is made up in the mountains.

Krakow’s ‘Szopka’ Christmas Cribs
Krakow’s famous ‘szopka’–pronounced ‘shopka’–Christmas cribs are portable theaters for traditional puppet Nativity plays. The ornate structures can be two meters high and three meters wide. Those colorful, ingenious, richly decorated and brightly illuminated extravaganzas take fantastic shapes inspired by Krakow’s architectural marvels, the bizarre spires of the church of Virgin Mary’s in the first place. In the past the Christmas cribs were mostly works of Krakow masons in their idle weeks of the Polish rainy late autumn. Nowadays it is a pastime of many Krakow dwellers of all walks of life. And the city boasts several dynasties of Christmas-crib makers where two or three generations construct brand-new creches every year.
The City of Krakow Historical Museum at 35 Grand Square has collected the best examples of traditional Christmas cribs for decades. And every year the museum’s contest gathers crib builders with their latest works round the monument to Adam Mickiewicz at the Grand Square where a plethora of newly built ‘szopka’ cribs of various size can be seen before noon on the first Thursday of December. Then the successful entries are displayed in the City of Krakow Historical Museum throughout the holiday season.
At the same time every Krakow church takes pride in its own Christmas crib–the Nativity scene that is usually lavish and elaborate, often in motion, and sometimes centuries old. Those most popular can be found in the historical city center–in the late-17th-century church of Annunciation at the Loretanska street, in the 17th-century church of Annunciation at the Karmelicka street, in the early-17th-century church of St. Peter and St. Paul’s and in the adjacent 13th-century church of St. Andrew’s (both at the Grodzka street).
Anyway. its a beautiful experience to see different"szopki" i. It gives a wonderful Christmas atmosphere, Think about a day walking around and visiting our historical churches.
Packing List

Wish I could have packed some of these obwarzanki in my bag. They are the forerunner of the modern bagel. They are sold on street corners and, in the morning, often still warm. Tasty and cheap at less then twenty cents apiece.
National park in Zakopane
by Cool-123
Zakopane is a place to see the natural world. There are some trails and national parks. Before you start your journey, you should buy the map in the tourist office near the coach station.
You can take the cable car to the top of the hill or by walking 45mins. At the top, you will be attracted by the beautiful scenery. Also, you can have your lunch and dinner here. When you get down, you can buy the souvenir in the market just outside the entrance of the cable car.
To get there, you can take the coach at the train station at Karkow. It is much better to have a return ticket.
