I booked my Krakow hotel through www.easyjet.com (you don't have to fly with them) though www.venere.com and www.booking.com are both good sites with useful hotel reviews from guests.

I stayed at the Hotel Rt. Rezydent, which is just off Rynek Glowny (the main square). Very nice hotel, very convenient location, very reaonable rates: details here

Having thought about it, I wonder if you mean 100 euros max for a triple room?

In which case, ignore my suggestion.

Have a look at www.booking.com There are a few triple rooms in Krakow hotels for 100 euros on there. www.staypoland.com will also give you some well-priced options.

I have posted 3 places on my Krakow page. One is very beautiful hotel (Hotel Pod Bialym Orlem) and 2 others are B&B....well one without a breakfast.
Last summer we were staying in "Wislna 5/8 street: Guest rooms" (the one without breakfast) and it was great. It is only 1/2 block from the main square (that is where you want to be). It is 2 floor walk up (no elevator) but the rooms are big, with big nice bathroom. You can see pictures in my tips. I also know that the place was booked, but we never seen or hear any other guests. You have your own key, to the building/floor/your room. Owners are very nice. PLace is sparkling clean, shower is strong, you can make your tea.
After discovering this place we will never pay for the regular hotel. We will always try to stay there.
In 2005 we were staying in "Hotel Pod Bialym Orlem" it was nice, but it was $100 for 2(with fantastic breakfast). It was my husband's first time to poland, so I treaded him to a nice place ;-) I booked it through "staypoland".

Travel Tips for Krakow

Avoiding the crowds.

by wightlion

Want to avoid the school party and stag do culture ?

My tip is to visit krakow in the winter time, this place has a magical air about it when covered in snow.
My visit was in Janurary and to stand in the main square at night with all the buildings floodlit in the middle of a snow shower was something else. I liked the whole ambiance about being in Poland

WAWEL CATHEDRAL - KATEDRA WAWELSKA

by LoriPori

Located within Wawel Castle, the 14th century WAWEL CATHEDRAL - KATEDRA WAWELSKA - is the spiritual center of Poland and the burial place of nearly all Polish Kings and National Heroes. It was also the Cathedral of Pope John Paul II before he left for the Vatican.
Wawel Cathedral stands on Wawel Hill - a 15-acre limestone outcropping on the banks of the Vistula River.
The interior of Wawel Cathedral contains 18 Chapels. The most notable is the Kaplica Zygmuntowska ( Sigismund Chapel) built in 1517 - 33 and houses the Tombs of King Sigismund, King Sigismund II Augustus and Ann Jagiellonka. Sigismund Chapel, with its golden dome exterior, is considered to be the finest Renaissance Chapel north of the Alps.
Dominating the Nave, is the mausoleum of St. Stanislav, Poland's patron saint.
Since 1037, Wawel Cathedral has been the burial place of Polish Kings. The Royal Tombs of all but four of Poland's 45 Kings can be seen in the Cathedral side chapels and in the 12th century St. Leonard's Crypt. King Kazimierz the Great's tomb is to the right of the main altar and is made of red marble.
Open Monday to Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:15 to 5:00 p.m.
Admission 10 zl

Napkins

by doogienj

The Polish napkins are not what we are used to from the US. They look like what we call cookie sheets. Shiny, thin, and non absorbent. But strangely enough they do the job much better than you first think. So not to worry, but take a few extra.

Packing for Krakow

by suvanki

Getting from the airport by taxi/bus/train to the centre isn't too difficult, but suitcase on wheels makes it a bit easier. Day sac for sightseeing Krakow is easy to get around on foot, but some of the roadfs/paving is uneven-so comfy flat shoes/boots are advised. We were there in May, when we experienced sun and rain-so waterproof jacket/umbrella (Though shops around main square sell umbrellas Carry prescription drugs-though there are pharmacies here. Photogenic city! carry as much photographic equipment as you need. Photographic shops etc to re-stock. Wet wipes, hand gel, bubble wrap to protect any pottery/bottles of bison grass vodka etc.
Guide book-I brought Rough Guide to Poland (2007) with me DK Eye Witness to Poland had just published 2010 version, which, I didn't get a copy of pre departure. Krakow in your pocket is recommended - got a free copy, Thanks to Matt- can pick up a free copy from various hotels/tourist info offices or download/buy online

Ojcow: Poland's quaintest park

by stakhanov

Just 25km north of Krakow lies a small national park called Ojcow. Although it is one of Poland's smallest, it is well worth a day trip from Krakow. The park consists of weird rock formations, two lovely castles and the beautiful, unspoilt village of Ojcow.
You can get here by bus from Krakow's main bus station. Take the bus towards Olkusz and ask the driver to drop you at Ojcow. The bus ride lasts approximately 45 minutes.
