Krakow is not a cheap place to stay: the old city hotels are full of character but expensive: on the ring road there are a lot of large concrete blocks, Soviet style. Hotel Fortuna is a friendly, homely, slightly old-fashioned hotel (candlewick bedspreads and blankets rather than duvets, heavily patterned carpets etc..) but perfectly reasonable and a good location only a few minutes walk to the old city.
An old building, one big advantage is that it is also surprisingly quiet considering it is on the corner of a main road and sidestreet (there's not so much traffic at night).
