Cracking City, this Cracow :)
by Durfun
This was my first short trip to an 'exotic' country where I'd barely done any background homework.
The city was chosen by a buddy for my brother's stag, so I just went along. Did some quick reading on the way..
Jotted down the star architectural attractions, and being such a compact Old Town, everything was within walking distance of each other. Best thing about Krakow. Beautiful, quirky, exotic.
Friendly & helpful locals.
Getting merry at Pauza (see Nightlife tip), after a self-imposed drinking moratorium that lasted 13 years! A fun feeling... ;)
St. Adalbert Church VT Euromeet Photoshoot
by Martin_S.
Matt, our organizer of the VT Euromeet 2010 in Krakow, decided upon doing one of our photo shoots here alongside the Church of Saint Adalbert...now I imagine when this church was consecrated that they had NO IDEA we would put it to such use in the future, but we did and it is now history. You can see the church itself in the first photo, a tiny little thing, hardly seeming to be enough to have a priest in, not to mention a congregation.
The other photos show Matt using his megaphone to try and get all the rowdy VTers rounded up to do the photoshoot, and Stacey, Carmen and Sandra smiling for the camera.
As for the history of the church itself, if you are interested, I found a nice article on one of the sites I used to research before going to Krakow.

Slaskie Oblaty
by jorgec25
Slaskie Oblaty are delicious round and large cookies, that I bought in Pszczyna.
I tried the Vanilla and Cinnamon options and loved them so much that I had to bring a few boxes back home with me.
Sadly, I have eaten them all by now, lol
The ZPAP International Arts Festival
by johngayton
I had no idea what this was all about when I encountered this little event happening on the Maly Rynek (the small square just of the main one) but it all looked quite colourful and entertaining.
There were various events happening on the stage including some sort of play, followed by a display of folk dancing. At the stalls around the square there was an artificial rockface which seemed to be being used for a climbing competition, some guy judging paintings and a simultaneous chess exhibition.
It was only having returned and going through my pics that I had a chance to do a bit of research and it looks like I missed out on quite an important local event.
ZPAP is the Association of Polish Artists and the local festival here in Krakow takes place from mid to end May once every three years. The festival is intended to promote local art at every level and to encourage international exchanges and involvement.
Exhibitions are city-wide with many prominent local artists and galleries contributing as well as competitions and events intended to include a broad spectrum of talent.
The website below has all the info and though in Polish seems to translate quite well using Google Translator.
KS Cracovia Krakow
by HORSCHECK
KS Cracovia Krakow is the oldest sports club in Poland. It was established in 1906 and won the first Polish football championships in 1921. Cracovia promoted to the first football league in 2004 after 20 years in lower leagues. The club has a strong hostility towards Wisla Krakow.
It is tradition that Cracovia's first and second team play a friendly match at midday of New Year's day. I attended this match in the Cracovia Stadium which has a capacity of 9000. About 5000 attended the New Year's match which ended with 7:4.
