Krakow's Nicest Hotel
Staff were very helpful. Room was very nice, clean, view across to National Museum. Hotel was large and spacious. 5 -10 minutes walk only to Old Town. The hot buffet breakfast was varied and plentiful. Take the 192 bus from the airport to the hotel (and vice versa), it stops 30m away, jouney time about 15 minutes. Bus costs less than 10PLN for two people with luggage (large luggage still required a separate bus ticket as at Oct 07). Taxi costs +/-70PLN. Buy your bus tickets at the newspaper kiosks in town displaying MPK signs whenever possible, this saves times trying to get one aboard. You can also get them from the kiosk inside the hotel foyer. Make sure you validate the tickets by stamping them in the ticket machine on the bus. We would recommnd the Hotel Cracovia and would definitely stay there again.
Unique Quality: Next to large green area of city (Blonia Park).

I stayed at the Hotel...
I stayed at the Hotel Cracovia, an Orbis hotel. It was a very large hotel, very clean and comfortable and I was very impressed with my 'single' room which consisted of two small rooms, one a small TV lounge and a bedroom. The bath was very adequate and the hotel was very reasonably priced.
Unique Quality: The hotel is a very short walking distance from the Old Town and some of the rooms have beautiful views of Wawel Castel Hill

Pros : - Many budget hostels can be located far from the city centre. This hostel is within walking distance from the Old Town. - ENORMOUS kitchen, very good for preparing your own meals.
Cons : - Rooms are huge, with many beds. If they are all occupied, you will have problem sleeping. If you are alone, it may feel a little spooky. - Again, the only place to hang your clothes while showering are outside of the cubicles. - And yet again, there is a lock-out period between around 10am to 5pm.
Dorms : 20zl
From Train Station, walk to the Old Town. Along Ul. Basztowa surrounding the Planty, take Tram #15 heading East. Get off at the next tram-stop after Cracovia Hotel. There is a street to the right of the tram-line. The hostel is at the end of the street.

We blatantly ignored our Cracow guide, and stayed at the Youth Hostel on ul. Oleandary, near the Cracovia Hotel and 10 minutes walk from the centre. Despite the books description of a 'cheerless modern hostel', I found the atmosphere to be good, but I guess it depends who else is staying at the time. We payed around 18 zloty per night ( £3.50) The welcome you receive tends to be good, but also depends on which member of staff is at reception. The six bed rooms were only about 18 zloty per night and despite it being January were very warm - we had to open the window! There is a kitchen and tv/common room, but they are tucked away on the top floor; however, a good place to meet other guests.

Hi, I plan to stay in Krakow in Cracovia hotel - has anybody experience staying there (service, location, etc)? Is it ok to be there with child?

You are just outside the Old town centre, ten to fifteen minutes walk, on the upside the hotels looks good and there is a huge public open space across the road.
Personally I would like to be a bit closer to the old town but the area seems fine and if you are arriving from Krakow airport, this hotel is on the right road.

Hi
Sorry to be so late in answering your question. As a Krakowian I would definitely not recommend this hotel. It has no endearing features whatsoever in my opinion, and a lot of extremely negative ones, especially its 'nightlife' - 18+ only, if you can or want to pay for it!
That's my personal opinion, but here's a memorable review from a guest who stayed at the Cracovia last November (published on www.cracow-life.com):
"Cracovia reminded me of the worst days of East Berlin, before the wall came down. The building is really unattractive, located on a six-lane thoroughfare with a couple of tramlines thrown in for added sound effects. On the other side of the building we were horrified to find a football stadium which seemed to attract a lot of drunken youths and attendant policemen at the weekend. Cracovia is a great place to stay if drab communist socio-realism is your thing. Otherwise, stay clear of this place! Horrid!!!"
If you need some other recommendations, I'd be happy to advise you. Krakow is an amazingly beautiful city. You'll have a wonderful time here.
Q:Overnight Train to Krakow "Has anyone taken the sleeper train to Krakow from Prague? How was it, were there too many stops, comfortable, etc?"
A: "LOL! It is important. I also want to know if its safe, as far as theft goes.
You answered one question, the 16 stops. I am not the deepest sleeper. So that may be an..."
