 | Hotel ROKK: On a deserted street and a 10 minute walk to tram

Well, we got this hotel through a "deal" with Austrian Airlines. Our room was a double - but like a dorm. We are a married couple and were given two single beds on opposite sides of the room We requested a real double when we saw this, but were told they were sold out for 2 months so they had no other rooms available. We had booked on July 2nd and were there on September 16th, so you'd think that would have given them enough time to book us a real double room. Needless to say, we were annoyed, but figured we were only there for 3 nights (and then were transferring to the Hotel Maltanski), so no big deal. However, the hotel is two long blocks from a main street where you catch the tram. At night this street is totally deserted as it's across from a tram yard. Walking down this at night was a bit unnerving (and we're from NYC). Breakfast was good. We ate dinner there 2 nights and that was good too. Very reasonable. Front desk people were generally helpful, but their command of English was only fair and so some of our questions could not be answered. Not too good on the computer, either. We tried some admittedly poor Polish on our part. It didn't help.
Bottom line - If you want a reallly cheap place, away from the Centrum and don't mind a long dark walk at night (or take a taxi) and the inconvenience of being far away from the center (no quick 4PM naps back at the hotel), then it's OK.
