Wit Stworz Hotel

The hotel is a compilation of historical XVIth century interiors with comfort and modernity. The interior is nice and as most hotels the same category. However, there is one thing that might not be nice - the hotel's owner is some kind of religion organization and this is why there are plenty of sculptures or pictures of Christian signs.

Unique Quality: One of the best things of the hotel is that it has a great location and it is not that expensive as some other hotels around the old town. The street where the hotel is located is really peaceful.

Lovely Hotel, Lovely City

The Hotel Wit Stwosz is in a perfect location for exploring Krakow being a very short (less than 5 minutes) walk from the Church of St. Mary, Rynek Glowny (the Market Square) and the Cloth Hall.
The room we were in was high-ceilinged, of average size but with plenty of space for us and our things. As well as the beds (we had twin-beds pushed together) the room contained wardrobe and draw space and a small table and chairs, the furniture being plain but attractive.
The room was simply decorated but very comfortable and lovely and warm, quite important as we visited in a rather cold and wet March. The bathroom was small, more of a shower room really, but clean and more than adequete.
The public areas were, like the room simply but attractively decorated and the cellar restaurant, where breakfast was also served was cosy and welcoming.
Breakfast was basic - breads, cheese, meats and salad with tea and coffee - but tasty and set us up well for the day.
The staff were fantastic. Friendly, effecient and very , very helpful.
I would certainly recommend staying at the Hotel Wit Stwosz. I am not sure how many rooms the hotel has but the feeling we got was of a small, quiet and relaxing place where we both immediately felt at ease. Comfortable and welcoming it is a lovely hotel in a lovely city.

Unique Quality: A very short walk from a lot of the sights in the old quarter and not that far from the Castle, Kazimierz and other areas of interest.
Also quite near Planty and the bus stops to and from the Airport

This, located in the middle of the city church is probably the most famous in Poland - it's called St. Mary's. Built around XIV century.
Late Gothic architecture, inside - a great altar with sculptures curved by Wit Stwosz (probably the biggest wooden Gothic altar in the world)

KRAKOW - top royal city

Krakow's Main Market Square is a medieval wonder. It is here that many of the city's great architectural and cultural sites are found. Among the many to be seen on the culture vultures' itinerary is St. Mary's, with its world famous wooden altar carved by Wit Stwosz.
In the centre of Marker Square stands fantastic buildings of Sukiennice and tower of Town Hall. TOP 10 cities of the world!

Churches in Krakow

by Bferek

My grandmother has always told me about a church in Krakow the my Great-Great-Great Grandfather sculpted the alter statues. She said it has double steeples, is red brick and a name plate was placed somewhere on the church with his name. She can not recall his first name and his last name is spelled "Slosarzova" or so she recalls. My grandmother will be 86 in April and I would love to give her more information about something that she always talks about. She has never been able to go to Poland but her cousin did in the 1960's however they were not allowed to take pictures of the inside of the church only outside;and those pictures were destruoyed years ago be a robber in their house. If anyone has any info...plz let me know. Thanks Brenda

If it applies to Mariacki church and it concerns the main alter it looks that your Great-Great-Great Grandfather name was famous (German origin) Veit Stoss (Wit Stwosz for Poles)born in ~~1448.
However red bricks and double steeples can be probably found in other Krakow churches as well.

And also
Slosarzova
'slusarz' is a noun in masculine gender
It means 'locksmith'
But the name can be also Slosarz (why not?)
Slusarzowa ( but why not also 'Slosarzowa')-indicates feminine gender for the noun slosarz or slusarz.
It could be also in old Polish (probably even in 19-th cent.) be 'v' instead of 'w'
