Krakow Tour Operators
by loftyken
We are going to visit Krakow for 5 days. Our holiday is going to begin on 6th July from Budapest. Where can we book train tickets in advance? Anyone knows a good travel agents to take some tours while in Krakow? Thanks

You can look at the Hungarian railway website:
http://elvira.mav-start.hu/elvira.dll/xslms/
to find train times. The site only lists one service per day......the overnight train...but http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml suggests there are at least 2. You can email MAV for fares on
informacio@mav-start.hu.
I am not sure whether you can buy tickets from abroad from MAV.
www.raileurope.com can probably book tickets for you, although it will charge commission.

Hello
there is a pretty prevalant tour company inside Krakow called Krakow city tours. You can book a tour easily from your hotel, no need really to book in advance. Hotels have brochures and also you can see their offices in the city center and ads all around krakow. They take u to Kazmirez, etc. Auschwitz, although you dont need a tourguide to take you to Auschwitz, you can go yourself by going to bus station and taking the mini bus ( or big bus). get timetable from the lady at the ticket counter upstairs. She will tell u what track to go to and when it leaves. You buy the tickets on the bus, no need to buy in advance. The trip to auschwitz was about an hour and 15 minutes. Inside auschwitz the museum itself has its own tours , which I did, but really , you dont need it becuase the signage around auschwitz is so good, it explains itself. Plus the guide rushes you too fast. after tour ended, when everyone left to get on buses, etc, i stayed another hour and revisited spots i was rushed through before. Then i caught my bus back to Krakow.
Have a nice trip! and just look for tours when you get there, plenty of them

Hi
The best way to see Krakow is walking.Every "must to see" is placed on small space and will permit to get to know you "Old Krakow" unique climate.

Entirely agree.
Krakow is a very walkable city.
If you get tired, there are trams and buses and even cycle-rickshaws.
You don't need an organised tour of the city itself, imo, although an organised walking tour of Kazimierz (the Jewish quarter) might be interesting.
Travel Tips for Krakow

Every Wednesday at 6pm a small ad hoc group gathers in the premises of the Catholic Intelligence Club in Sienna street near the old square for a soupcon of English conversation and possibly a beer afterwards. A street sign encourages foreigners to join in and I’d recommend it. While tourists meet Krakowians and make new friends, the locals have a chance to practice their English.
Kazimierz Neighbourhood

This pic doesnt match the extremly beauty of this quarter..it reminded so much Barcelona quarters as Gracia or El Born. Nice squares and narrow streets, great clubs, restaurants, bars and clubs to drink something, gay area
Looks nice and we have to come back again to see it!!
Pigeons

City's policy toward the Krakow's pigeons changes rather often. Once they have been supposed as a symbol of Krakow and one of its tourist attraction, another time - as pests which additionaly litter the city.
Now the authorities try to limit number of pigeons. There are only two or three legal sellers of fodder for birds on the Main Market Square. But pigeons feel well and coo as usually.

Escape to the mountains!
by kirstylm
We took a day trip to the Tatra Mountains, about a 2 hour car trip away but absolutely stunning! Beautiful snow-capped mountains! We went to Krupowki and caught the funicular up to Gubalowka - a stunning view over the Tatra Mountains from there, as well as a fun little Tobogan ride at the funicular station!! After a quick lunch, it's then a half-hour walk to catch a nice little 2-seater ski-lift down to the bottom again!
Just note that its also a half-hour walk from the bottom of the ski-lift to where the funicular starts - i.e. where you car may be!! And theres also a great little market in Krupowki.
