Krakow Bead Shops

by DrexlUK

Hi,

we are revisiting Krakow in a couple of weeks and my wife would like to know if there are any bead shops in Krakow, the kind of beads that you use to make necklaces, earrings and other kinds of jewelery.

Any info much appreciated!

Beads etc aren't really my thing BUT you'll be there when the Christmas market is happening on the main square (Rynek Glowny) and I'm sure I noticed several "handicraft" stalls there (as well as the ones with things already made) - the Christmas market is something you'll definitely visit anyway and so keep your eyes peeled.

Good luck and enjoy Krakow.

There were beads galore on the market when I visited (in the summer) but all pre-strung. However, prices are so reasonable that your wife may well feel it worthwhile buying them to break up and re-use.

I didn't see any bead shops on my wanderings, I'm afraid.

Travel Tips for Krakow

Sample the unique atmosphere

by cheekymarieh

Sample the unique atmosphere of the UNESCO listed city. Superb cellar bars. On one trip to the city the weather was so bad that we managed to sample lots of these bars in the space of about 14 hours. We even managed to find one with only candles for lighting.

Who sat on this little bench?

by gosiaPL

There's this tiny little stone bench by the entrance to the Collegium Maius, the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University. I hope you can see it to the left as you enter, right behind the garbage bin.

I like this little bench a lot 'cause I find it somewhat unusual just stuck there to the wall... Always makes me wonder how old it is and who sat there over the centuries :-) Haha, there's this lovely old bay window of the Stuba Communis (professors' dining room) and I am overtaken by a simple stone bench! ;-)

The building is in 15 Jagiellonska St. - exit the market square into St. Ann street and it's the first corner to your left.

Public toilets

by HORSCHECK

It is customary in Poland that ladies toilets show a circle or the words "dla pan", whereas gents toilets show a triangle or the words "dla panow". This can be quite confusing when only the signs are shown on the toilet doors in a restaurant.
Public toilets usually charge anything between 1 and 2 Zloty, so make sure you have some change available.

NO doggy bags in Krakow

by matcrazy1

Haha, don't look for doggy bags whenever you eat in Krakow except in some world-wide fast food restaurants like Pizza Hut.

Hmm, it seems that in contrast to the USA, people would feel at least a little uncomfortable taking food home from a restaurant. It just maybe socially unaccepted by some people.

At some restaurants (not luxury) they serve really big dishes rather for 3 or 2 hungry consumers than for 1, I could say. You can order one dish for two (not in top class restaurant) - it seems to be socially accepted, at least among younger consumers.

Smok Wawelski

by ania70pl

The statue of Smok Wawelski (Wawel's Dragon) you can see on the foot of Wawel Hill, from the Wisla river side. There is also a cave called Smocza Jama where, like the legend says, this dragon lived. You can visit the cave, the route is only 81 m length.
