we paid 95euros to wawel castle- it was abank holiday weekend where prices were higher than normal though - and we could have saved around 30euros if we had booked this taxi online before arrival - but having been nearly duped by similar events in prague we just took our chances - had we arrived earlier on in the day we would have used the bus/train service but hust wanted to get to the hotel and settled - the train station is at the other end of a long street from wawel castle ( i beleive )
there is a bus/train service from the airport that will be much cheaper

I had never heard of Gl Osbowy station.

Krakow railway is Krakow Glowny....I think its full name may actually be Krakow Glowny Osbowy?

There is absolutely no need to take a taxi to Krakow. You can walk a few hundred metres (or take the free shuttle bus) to the airport station and then take the train direct to Krakow Glowny.

Or you can take the bus.

I have used both. The bus is slower but a little cheaper although you must buy a ticket for your bag. The train is faster and very easy.

Transport information to/fromthe airport in English here:

If you do want to take a taxi you can expect to pay at least 50PLN.

is the train now going directly to the airport - when we returned to the airport we had to get a train so far and then the bus - that was nealry 2 years ago though
And yes the currency was, and still is Polish Zloty not Euro- apologies for any confusion

The train stops about 500m from the terminal building.

You can walk from there or you can get the free shuttle bus (takes about 2 minutes).

Travel Tips for Krakow

St Mary Church

by DPando

the tallest building in this beautiful square.. the most visited place in the old city.. always crowded with shops, terraces where relax after the visit.. and the perfect depature place to begin to see around

The largest plaza of medieval Europe

by matcrazy1

Hmm... is it really the largest? Yes it is, no doubts. St. Mark's Square (Piazza di San Marco) in Venice seems to be much smaller.

There is this building on my picture called Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) in the middle of the square which divides the square into two parts: western and eastern.
So, if you can't fly like Krakow's pigeons you can't see the whole Main Market Square.

The Cloth Hall was build over 700 years ago. Today they would build sth different, I am sure, maybe modern shopping mall. Now, NO McDonald's there haha :-). Nights/mornings at "Cellar under the Rams", the Old Town and two (OK, three) pretty girls :-))).

In the square... On the hour, every hour...

by Orbital_

If you haven’t heard it already during your stay, make sure you’re in the Rynek at some point as the hour strikes. Every hour a trumpet call is played from the highest tower of St Mary’s to the four corners of the world. This tradition dates back to medieval times, a warning of approaching tartar raids.

by Smileks

Annually, every first Thursday following Corpus Christi day a large crowd of people gathers in the Premonstratensian monastery yard in the Zwierzyniec district. Some men are dressed in the traditional Cracovian folklore dress while others adorn oriental garments an hold horse - tail insignia in their hands. A musical troupe called 'The Mlaskoty' stands close by playing drums, flute bugle, clarinet, fiddle, and double-bass. The 'Lajkonik' enters the yard while the troupe plays loud and high pitched music. The hero of the festivity - Lajkonik - rides a hobby - horse with peacock feathers attached to its head and in Tartar disguise through the streets of Cracow. This magnificent costume is an extremely accurate copy of the dress designed by Stanis³aw Wyspiañski in 1904. After paying a courteous visit at the Premonstratensian monastery and parish priest the Lajkonik leads the pageant trough the Cracow streets: Koœciuszki, Zwierzyniecka, Franciszkañska, and Grodzka to the Main Market. This procession lasts about 2-3 hours. At 6 p.m., in front of the Old Tower Hall on the Main Market the Lajkonik with the colours flying and music blasting dances and prances merrily around. Usually dinner at the Hawe³ka Restaurant ends the festivities.

Plaszow Concentration Camp

by ms_maliboo

Upon visiting the site I was very disappointed to see the state it was in, but nonetheless you are still shcoked by the vast area, the bits and pieces of the camp that are left behind and the feeling around the site.

It was late in the afternoon we visited and it was getting dark, but there was certainly an eerie atmosphere to the area, and you can still see the grey house that once housed an attachment of SS officers. Amon Goeth's villa still stands and, unbelievably, both houses are inhabited by locals! There is also a tall memorial dedicated to the people who lost their lives there.

The camp itself is mostly covered in litter; nappies, beer cans, rubbish, matresses from the homeless who live in the mine caves. This is very upsetting to see and it is as if the place has been forgotten about by the city. I wish someone who take more care of it. Especially poignant is the small grave stones you will see doted here and there that have been erected by the families of those who were murdered here.

A must see site, but very sad and can be upsetting to see it's state now. But please visit it.
