A Good Experience

Just returned from 5 days in beautiful KraKow.We stayed in the RT Monopol. It is very central and close to the Main Square (5 minutes walk). It was very clean. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate and the staff courteous and helpful. The price for such a central location was great. The bottles of spring water left in the room was a nice gesture.Only one minor quibble - the size of the double room a little small for two persons. i would gladly recommend it as a place to stay. Perfect base to discover a delightful city

Just back from the delightful city of Krakow. The RT Monopol Hotel is very well situated, just a 10 minute slow stroll from the main square (Rynek Glowny). On arrival my initial impressions were that the reception staff appeared rather frosty - a contrast to the fabulous 20 degree heatwave outside. However over the duration of our stay they became more warm, friendly and helpful and were happy to assist with booking tours or any other requests.
Buffet breakfast is available between 7.00 - 10.00 am. You couldn't call it a breakfast room - it's much more grand than that! Good choice of cereals, cold meats etc.
Our hotel room was very adequate in size, with the usual amenities. Complimentary water bottles were provided daily, which was a very nice touch. Our room was at the front of the hotel, which overlooks the Planty - a garden which goes all around the city.
There is also a supermarket right next door to the hotel, with a very good stock of food and drink, including Polish beer and vodka if you want to take this home!
Krakow itself is an absolute delight. Now is the best time to discover this beautiful and vibrant, buzzing city which has more bars and restaurants than you could ever imagine. Don't worry about the language - most restaurants have menus displayed in English. All tastes are catered for with a number of international restaurants. We visited some great and very cheap restaurants including Gruzinskie Chaczapuri (Georgian), Balaton (Hungarian), and Miod Malina (Polish). Watch out for Pizza Club Oskar on the main square, where you'll get an excellent pizza for £2.20!
The attractions of Krakow are too numerous to mention here. Every street will have you wide-eyed at the stunning and ancient architecture. Try to visit Wawel Castle, or take a boat trip on the river Vistula. If you've got the time, a visit to Wieliczka salt mine is well worth doing - again a breathtaking and spiritual experience, going hundreds of feet underground to explore chambers made of rock salt from ceiling to floor, and elaborate statues and sculptures created by the miners themselves.
All in all, Krakow is fantastic - and the RT Monopol is a perfect base to explore this amazing city.
Good location

Returned last week from a 5 day stay in Krakow at RT Monopol. The hotel is in a very convenient location and agree with previous reviewers comments. Would also add the rooms are very clean, beds comfortable, bathroom modern and well decorated with good shower plenty of hot water. The staff were pleasant and helpful, they arranged for a taxi to meet us at airport and also one when returning to airport, very efficient.
Just a few slightly negative comments that people might find useful. We were in Krakow during the recent very hot weather about 34 degrees every day. The hotel only has air con in the dining room. The bar and reception were very hot and it was even too hot to have a drink here quite late in the evening. The rooms were hot but on request I was supplied with a fan. Got the impression these were limited in number so if the weather looks like its going to be hot maybe worth e mailing them to reserve one. There was no extra charge for this. Also if a light sleeper especially in hot weather when you will need to have the windows open at night, perhaps request a room at the back. The hotel is on a busy road, ok the trams stop about midnight but there was alot of traffic all through the night. Also the curtains are very thin and the street lights shine straight through.
Despite these negative comments we had a great stay, the hotel is very good for the price paid and we absolutely loved Krakow.
Great location & very good value

We returned from Krakow last night and just had to put pen to paper regarding our trip and the RT Monopol Hotel (located in ul.Sw. Gertrudy 6 – that’s the name of the road).
This hotel is in a great location, just a 2 minute stroll from the main square which is crammed with great restaurants. (turn right out of the hotel & then left at the crossroads) Also about a 5 minute walk away are the castle & cathedral. Further away but still within walking distance is the Jewish quarter.
We travelled with WizzAir to Katowice. We then took the WizzAir minibus to Krakow which takes about 1 hour 45 mins and costs about £12-£15 (depends on exchange rate) per person return. The flight was great, but we’d suggest you get to the departure gate as early as possible as the seats are unallocated. The transfer was also fine other than having to wait nearly an hour at the airport before we set off as the driver had to wait for the Paris flight to arrive. It wasn’t too bad as we sat in the coffee shop enjoying a hot chocolate. The return journey took about 90 mins with no delays at all.
The WizzAir minibus drops off at the main bus station in Krakow. We then took a taxi to the hotel which took less than 15 minutes and cost about £2.50
We were greeted by a lovely Polish receptionist who spoke fluent English. Within minutes we were in our rooms escorted by a member of staff who carried all our luggage and ensured we had all we required. As this is a 3* hotel I was impressed with the level of service as it was of a standard I would usually expect from a 4*.
The hotel is one of the cleanest I have ever stayed in and although the rooms are not huge they are immaculate with crisp white bed linen and fantastic pillows. The rooms are quiet, well heated and also have opening windows.
The bathroom was also small but again spotless and equipped with a great hot shower.
The only down side with the rooms was that no tea/coffee facilities were provided. The safety deposit box is in reception and hairdryers are supplied on request.
We booked 3 tours / trips via the hotel each of which was excellently run and very good value. We visited the Salt Mines and also Auschwitz, both had fluent English speaking guides (ones that you could really understand!) and we also attended a ‘folk’ evening where we were entertained by a trio of musicians and enjoyed a traditional Jewish meal (other options available too). This was a lovely evening as there were only about 25 people in total in the restaurant. Again the hotel went above & beyond. We took a taxi to the restaurant (approx £2.15) & when we asked about a return taxi the receptionist just said to call her when we were ready to leave & she’d send one over which she did & it arrived within minutes.
Overall our visit to Krakow was fantastic – great food, lots to do & see, lovely friendly people, not very touristy yet and the hotel & staff just topped it for us. A really god value trip. You money will go far. We paid on average £5.00 for a main meal and a large beer (lager)
One final point – the other guests in the hotel were from various countries but many were really friendly which created a lovely atmosphere.
Great Hotel $ for $

This hotel is great, and I would definetly stay here again. Yes the rooms are small, but they are clean. When I travel, I try to spend the least amount of time in the hotel room. The location could not be better. It is an easy walk to all attractions. I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Great Hotel

Was a little aprehensive after reading some of the reviews but the hotel was amazing.
Despite arriving hours before check in we were allowed to check in early with no complaints. The staff were extremely helpful and were able and always willing to help us with directions/Krakow advice. There were 5 of u in total over four rooms and every one was clean and huge! We had the only double which consisted of a massive bathroom, single room with TV, dresser, wardrobe and a double room.
Location is great too, we spent most nights in the immediate area as there are so many great little bars and restaurants (hotel restaurant serves excellent food and breakfasts). The location helps you really feel you are seeing the true Krakow rather than a slick tourist version.
I woud definately use this hotel again and if you are looking for a brilliant hotel in a great location then choose here!

i think that campanile is in a little bit more nice area (calmer that in monopol which is situated at noisy street. and it looks nicer on photos. cheers.
