Buying tickets online to Prague
by jlfloyd
I will be heading to Prague from Krakow this July. I want to take a night train and was wondering if there was a way to buy a ticket online on either the polish railways website or the czech railways website. If I am unable to buy the ticket, could someone let me know the cost of the night train from Krakow to Prague and how far in advance I would need to get the ticket.

Travel Tips for Krakow
Harris Piano Bar, VT Euromeet, 2010
by Martin_S.
Matt chose the Harris Piano Bar for our first clubbing night. It was an excellent choice and I do think that everyone enjoyed the food, beer AND company of course.
In the photos you can see -
Hansi and Chiara.
Ande and Birgit.
Hansi and Martin.
Larry and Mark.
Martin, Chiara and Zohara. Meeting VT friends for the FIRST TIME and of course renewing other friendships made over the years here on VT.
Ande and I have been writing for YEARS, but had never met and she is even nicer than I had believed, now we BOTH plan to visit one another in our respective countries.
Also met up with Chiara and her husband Alex and what a wonderful couple they are. We had the opportunity to share a few hours with them wandering the streets of Krakow.
And introducing Zohara to Hansi and lovely Lori was a blast.
Just too many fantastic people all in one place to mention EVERYONE, just to say that each and EVERY ONE of them IS fantastic for so many reasons.
Statue of Piotr Skarga
by gosiaPL
If you ever go to see St. Peter and Paul's Church in 38 Grodzka St., turn back to see the Statue of Piotr Skarga facing the church on the other side of the street.
Father Piotr Skarga (1536-1612) was the author of the Parliamentary Sermons" (Kazania Sejmowe) that are a series of lectures on politics and warnings related to Poland's future (i.e. the future in the past). The amazing thing is that those "sermons" are still valid today! If you'd like to check Jan Matejko's visionary painting of the sermons click here.
Believe it or not, it will please me a lot when you know the answer to somebody's asking "Who's that guy on the column?" :-)
By the way, father Piotr Skarga is buried in that church on the other side of the street. To read about the church go to my Must-Sees (page 3).
Legends: Fury
by Skeptic-jr
There are at least two legends connected to St. Mary's Church. According to the first of them the church was built by two brothers - each of them was a sponsor of one church's tower. The brother whose tower had finally standed lower was very envious of another brother's success. He saw red and killed his own brother. But the higher tower is still nearer to the heaven.
Lajkonik Parade
by matcrazy1
.
Lajkonik Parade on the first Thursday after the Corpus Christi feast proceeds for about three hours from the Zwierzyniec Premonstratensian convent of St Norbert to the central Grand Square, accompanied by loud and high-pitched music. Participants sport either Krakow folk costumes or fancy oriental attire. Lajkonik is their leader–bearded fellow in a Tartar disguise rides a wooden horse and prance joyfully around.
.
You can buy Lajkonik (not alive) in numerous souvenir shops: for example in ground floor of Cloth Hall.

Here Be Monsters! - 2
by mightywease
I'm afraid that I can't remember on which street this wonderful dragon is found, I meant to make a note of it and forgot! It's somewhere around Smolensk Street –-perhaps someone on VT can remind me.
Anyway, I just thought it was a great sculpture, I really love the way it is crawling across the face of the building, you can imagine that at any moment it will take flight and come swooping down towards the ground - and you - before heading off into the air. Fantastical and fantastic!
