Officially opens on June 24, 2004!
by Sharrie about Sheraton Krakow
This latest addition of the Sheraton chain of hotels to Poland was "unofficially" doing business since Apr. 30, 2004.
I stayed here for 2 nights in its first week of operation.
The only 5* hotel in Krakow. Yes, the only one!
It's expensive by world standard. Euro 165 ++ per night.
Although new, it's not that fantastic.
Due to no competition from most of the high-end accommodations in Poland, you will find it higly expensive here. Somewhat like Russia's hotels.
Naturally, there are cheaper alternatives, but that's in the lower end of the market.
I checked on it's 4 stars accommodations & they are neither cheap... Radisson & Holiday Inn charge only 10-15% cheaper.
Two complaints I made to the hotel. One was rectified.
1) No waste-paper basket (dustbin, or whatever you called it) in the bathroom!
Now, for Euro 165++, I expect a dustbin!!!
No excuse for that even if it's a new hotel!
2) No creamer even though there is coffee-maker in the room.
This one was not rectified! The design of the hotel is very much like that of Sheraton, Guilin, China. The one in Guilin is very old & run-down. So, I somewhat have a glimpse of that & I don't think I'd like this hotel when it ages.
Hotel includes buffet breakfast but the scrambled eggs were the worst I've ever tried!
Not a bad choice of other breakfast items. Just not my type of food. Lots of breads & cheese & hams, etc...
Sheraton Krakow is located very close to Wawel Castle & facing the river. Not bad location but about 10 mins walk from the Old City. I enjoyed the walk at this time of the year though.
No, I didn't go to the pool but I assumed there is one in a 5* hotel.
The room is standard size & has a safe (that's what I need). Laptop safe (that's what they say, I don't carry a laptop on vacation ;-)) & high speed internet connection in room.
If you use the hotel taxis to get to the railway station, take note it charges double the rate you take from the railway station. I was charged PLN 30! But when I arrived, the driver from the railway station only charged me PLN 15. This is a small matter compared to the room rate. So, no big deal. Taxis are cheap relatively to European standards.
If I return, I probably won't be returning here unless the hotel begins to charge less. SAS Radisson is about 5 mins away & closer to the Old City but without views.
Hotel staff is friendly but not informative enough. I asked some questions about getting to Zakopane by public transport & all they could tell me was how to get there by hotel taxi! I guess most guests who stay here will not rely on public transportation? ;-)
The receptionist did recommend a wonderful Polish restaurant though.
5star quality and service

There were 2 of us travelling and due to flight times etc we arrived late evening at the hotel. Unfortunately when booking I had inadvertently asked for a twin room rather than a double and the staff were extremely helpful in sorting this problem out, particularly considering the fact that they were fully booked that evening. The bedroom was large and spacious and this is normal standard for the Sheraton Krakow.
For the 3 days that we were there I must give this hotel a 5 star rating in all aspects-food, location, friendliness, quality etc etc.
A truely enjoyable stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others, particularly as I would be classified as a very fussy person.
Great hotel

Wanted a nice place to stay in Krakow, and this was great. The walk from the train station was a little long (25 minutes?). And you have to walk maybe 10 minutes to get to the main square. Other than that, beautiful rooms. Very good breakfast. And the staff was really friendly and helpful.

I was in a group staying at the Cracow Sheraton in December. It isa one year old first class Western style hotel. The rooms were great, staff friendly and helpful, bedding luxurious and all in all an enjoyable experience
Great hotel with amazingly helpful staff

Clean modern hotel minutes from the sights of the old town. The rooms are typical for a Sheraton - in that respect this hotel could be anywhere.
What stands out for me is the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for a long weekend and had researched places we wanted to see, restaurants to eat in and so forth. Even before we arrived the guest team had secured reservations for us in the restaurants we chose, organised a minibus to take us out to Birkenau, arranged an english speaking guide to the death camps and provided us with fee maps.
Nothing was too much trouble and they even had lists of all the gay bars and clubs with recommendations as to which were the most popular.

From airport you can go to bus-station or railway station in centre of Katowice and from there you can get to Krakow by bus or train.
There is good connection between these cities.
Have a nice trip and build your travel pages on VT:))

Thank you for the information on transport from the airport, but how do I get to my hotel (the new Sheraton on the other side of the city), easily? Is there a direct tram or would a taxi be best?

A taxi would be the most convenient, a short ride from the train station. Bus 124 stops near Sheraton Krakow (Ul Powisle 7), Jubilat stop. See for bus route schedule and stops:

Also here is a map of the city center: http://krakow-info.com/driving.htm
Ul Powisle starts near P block above purple zone B instructions.
