When booking your own accommodation over the internet you get surprises. Some are very unpleasant. But not the u Pana Cogita, a 34 room 3* pension hotel in a leafy section of Krakow just across the Wisla from the old town. When we opened the door to our "room", we assumed they had given us the wrong room number as we couldn't believe this was the double room we had booked for about £25 per person (at the time). It was a small suite with a seperate bedroom, very nicely furnished, with a large modern ensuite bathroom. We went back to the desk and were assured that this indeed was our room. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had only one dinner there but it was excellent and reasonably priced. The only slight let down was the breakfast which although quite good got a bit monotonous after a few days as the choice was limited. That said, the experience was 10 out of 10; a budget hotel with a touch of luxury.
Unique Quality: Visit the small market in the square just up the street. A good place to stock up on fruit and rolls etc for the day ahead.
Directions: Just south of the river across the Most (bridge) Debnicki.
This is relatively new hostel (pension) in the Debniki district. Easy accesible by car (a parking place inside), nice and a bit funny building. Rather small - only 6 rooms, but not bad location - about 10 minuts from the Wawel Castle by foot (20 from the Main Market Square).
double room - 54 euro (220 zloty)
double for one person - 42 euro (170 zloty)
double + extra person - 64 euro (260 zloty)
Breakfast and parking place included.
Unique Quality: TV, telephone, fridge, Internet. Restaurant
