Perfect location

We have now returned from a four day stay at this hotel. The hotels location was perfect being only a short walk from the square, and all other places of interest within walking distance.Jewish quarter , castle , opera house all around 10 - 15 mins away. The must see attractions are Auschwitz and the salt mine. We booked these at Krakow tours accross the road from the Rotunda (north of the square). They cost around £15 each, which we found good value as the English English speaking guides were excellent. Auschwitz is 1 hour away by coach and the salt mine around half that. The Opera was worth visiting ( in polish) Excellent Arcitecture. Seats 6,8,10 and £20. we had £10 ones in a 4 seat box.
A good traditional restaurant worth trying out is Chimera. Traditional food with a log fire, located below street level. A good mid-day meal was had at the poliskh kitchen (by Crakow tours booking office) the bigos and soups were good and very cheap (under £6 for the two of us with beers and coffee)
Overall the Hotel was excellent for our needs as it was exceptionally clean, breakfast plentifull, staff could not do enougth for you even keeping our luggage after checkout untill evening.
Would visit hotel again.
Friendly and Convenient hotel

My wife and I and another couple decided to go somewhere different for the New Year and decided to visit Krakow in Poland. We had been told that it was very similar to Prague, which was a place we had already visited and enjoyed. We booked the flights in September 2006 with ---.com from Leeds Bradford airport. After checking on hotels with Trip Advisor we booked the Wielopole Hotel through Expedia.
The hotel was conveniently placed approximately ten minutes walk away from the main square in Krakow and opposite the Holiday Inn. We found the hotel to be very clean and it had the appearance of been recently refurbished. Our room was of average size with two single beds and a more than adequate wardrobe. The bathroom appeared to be new and had a sink, toilet and a shower but no bath. The service to the room was excellent and it was cleaned and tidied every day to a very good standard. There was no kettle in the room but one would have been provided on request as would an iron, sewing equipment and other similar items often required when staying away from home. We did request extra pillows which were supplied straight away.
There is a small restaurant at the hotel which provided continental style breakfast but I am unsure whether or not they provided any other meals. There is no bar at the hotel when I visited.
Staff at the hotel were very helpful. We wanted to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum whilst we were there and the hotel arranged this for us at short notice. They even booked the tickets for us. Any requests to the reception were catered for quickly and efficiently and they gave advice on places to visit etc.
Krakow itself is a very interesting place to visit and the buildings are very similar to those in Prague and of a very Gothic style. Most of the city can be covered in a long weekend. Auschwitz is well worth a visit but try to go on an organised trip with a guide etc. The price is very reasonable and it is a full day trip as the camp is about one and a half hours from Krakow.
There are lots of restaurants in the center of Krakow providing traditional Polish food. This is goulash, dumplings and sausage which is very tasty and usually cheaply priced. There are also the usual Chinese, Indian restaurants and steak houses so all tastes are catered for. The beer is also good and well priced. The majority of the bars are situated underground and down dark alleyways. I was assured that they were fine to visit but we didn't bother. I probably would if we were to visit again.
Krakow is very interesting to visit for a long weekend and I would definately recommend the Wielopole Hotel to stay in. It is very clean and modern with very good facilities and friendly, helpful staff.
Modern, good location and cheap! What more could one want in a hotel?

Krakow is cold in the wintertime ... so, step inside to this nice little modern hotel and warm up! The reception was really friendly. They Immediately asked us if we wanted to book a tour to Auschwitz. (We declined the trip and decided to save money by just taking the train there instead - 30PLN r/t for two vice 80 - 120PLN pp for a tour) Our room was on the 5th floor and had a view overlooking the street. Nothing spectacular, but, it did allow light into the room. There were 2 welcome bottles of orange juice and 2 chocolates. The room was big enough for 2 people to comfortably move around in. The "double" bed was the normal 2 beds pushed together, but, they were really comfortable. The bathroom was also a decent size, they provided shampoo and soap. Everything was really clean. We were able to control the heat from inside the room, which was a nice plus. I imagine the same would be true for the a/c, but, we didn't notice one way or the other. The hotel is located just outside of the old section of town, in all, about a 5 minute walk. In the afternoon the hotel has cookies out for hungry guests. Breakfast was an extra 20PLN pp. They had a really nice continental spread - try the apples fried in a cinnamon batter - tasty. All in all, should our travels lead us back to Krakow, we would stay here again.

Several weeks after an initial inquiry contact with this hotel, I found my email adress - completely revealed together with many other adresses - in the recipient field of one of their (unrequested!) advertising emails. Unbelievable. Prepare for spam when contacting this hotel. Not recommended.
Disappointing
by TripAdvisor Member housebuyer
I was expecting more than I got. The hotel in in an excellent location, only one stop on the tram from the bus/train station and a five minute stroll into the old town square. The bus to the salt mines leaves from the end of the street and their are off licences, bakers and a supermarket all within two minutes from the hotel. However, the room was clean but very basic, there wasn't a kettle in the room (which is a first for me). It was all a bit sterile and bland, characterless even. The bed was not particuarly comfortable and the pillow terrible. If you want a double bed, book early as there are only three double rooms in the hotel, otherwise it's two single beds arranged next to each other. We didn't try breakfast, its served in a basement with no windows and although I cannot vouch for the food it didn't look appetising. Instead take a stroll into the market square and find a cafe, the food is a similar price and the dining experience is thoroughly enjoyable. Sorry Wielopole, it just didn't hit the spot for me.
Great Value for Money

Our room rate was the equivalent of about 40 quid per night to stay here and were very satisfied with the return on our modest investment.
If you are like us, and want a have a base to stay, which is excellently located (5 minute walk from Rynek Glowny), spotlessly clean, with friendly and helpful staff; allowing you to be able to take up the most part of your day and night exploring this fascinating city, then look no further.
The price also included a continental breakfast, which we found to be very satisfactory
Rooms also have heating thermostat control, which I was surprised to find at a 3 star hotel. The showers were pretty good too. Not the erratic / dribbly variety which are sometimes encountered at sub 4 star properties.
We would go back.
