Once a busy hotel...
The title explains it all: it was once a busy hotel when Tarnow was the capital of the Tarnowskie province, and lots of its guests were people on official visits or business trips. But after Poland's administrative reform Tarnow lost its status, and so did the hotel. This 3-star hotel is quite big for a town the size of Tarnow, and it looks quite desolate with only a few guests staying there. The vast restaurant was also empty but the food was nice. Frankly, I wonder how the hotel survives...
But I must say the service is extremely friendly and helpful. We stopped there because Pawtuxet felt pretty ill, and the hotel staff gladly provided anything we needed, asking all the time how she felt. We were both ever so grateful!
The reception staff let us see a few rooms first before we picked the one we liked. Single rooms seemed rather petite and in need for refurbishment, so we chose the suite (check the picture) which was already redone, and the 400 zl ($100) seemed a pretty good rate.
The Old Town is about 10-15 minutes' walk from the hotel. Still, I would recommend it for the helpful staff and the guarded parking - but I guess you just need to bear in mind why the hotel appears so desolate...
