Finding your way around
by deeper_blue
Buy a resort map showing all the slopes shortly after you arrive. Then you can work out your route and avoid freezing your toes off getting lost. Remember green is the easiest, then blue then red and finally black. I can recommend the szymoszkowa slope
Skiing in Zakopane
by halikowski
You have a number of possibilities: the shorter (1400m), lower slopes are often floodlit at night, and easy to access (Nosal, Biala Tatrzanska, Symuszkowa). Quite expensive though compared to neighbouring Slovakia. At Symuszkowa (perhaps 2km west out of Zakopane), 10 rides on the 1400m run costs 60 zloties, and you have to leave an extra 10 as deposit for the card. Compare this too Zdiar in Slovakia, where you have a multiple choice of routes, more interesting natural setting and a choice of lifts for 299 SKK (probably 28 zloties) for 2 hours. Both sites manufacture artificial snow if needs be.
Private Mini-Buses
by travelfrosch
While plentiful taxis will whisk you to just about anywhere, they're a bad value when you consider the availability of mini-buses. While there are no public local buses, private mini-buses abound. Most depart from the tourist office across the street from the long-haul bus station, though many will also depart from the parking area directly in front of the station. Within Zakopane, there are a great number of marked mini-bus stops: simply determine which stop is closest to your desired destination, then tell (or write on a slip of paper and show) the driver the stop you wish to travel to. Conversely, you can wait at a marked stop, and it should be a matter of minutes before a mini-bus shows up. Cost for transport within Zakopane is between Zl 1.50 and Zl 3.
Many mini-buses will also take you to various villages outside Zakopane (e.g., Kuznice). These short trips will cost between Zl 3 and Zl 5 per person one-way. Some mini-buses will also travel to destinations in Slovakia; these obviously will cost more.
Kasprowy Wierch

An ideal mountain for lazy people: if you don't want to hike, you can take the funicular to the 1987m high top. There you will have a fantastic wide view over the Tatra mountains - if it is not foggy.
Gubalowka hill
by Raimix
Gubalowka is maybe the most visited hill in Zakopane. Maybe it is not so high (about 1000 metres), but has everything that attract tourists. At first, it has funicular up and down, so simply if you want to get here, you dont need to climb. Secondly, when being on the top of hill, there are much nice places to sit and drink beer in the bars, to buy souvenirs. From this hill it can be seen panorama to other Tatra mountains and Zakopane city.
